Saint Seiya already started yesterday people, in all America continent, to be more especific - Argentina, Chile, Brasil, USA, Canada and Mexico.

But you(USA people have a litle problem), our especialized sites here are talking about the horrible version of Saint Seiya what Cartoon Network is showing in USA.

About the hour for what we know, in all countries is 18:00h

hi shyon! nice 2 know of a forum member who happens 2 be an anime fan. i'm sort of one as well though not a hardcore like u.

i collect hayao miyazaki's studio ghibli's films & so far i have spirited away, castle in the sky, kiki's delivery service, grave of the fireflies. have yet 2 find my neighbour totoro, & others.

i happen 2 have akira(special edition though i don't know what's the difference with the original), ninja scroll(movie), metropolis(movie), cowboy bebop(movie) & samurai deeper kyo(all 25 episodes on vcd's). fyi, all media are on dvd.

any suggestions on what i should look out for? i borrowed from a friend 8th Team Mobile Suit Gundam series & it rocks!! hope 2 find a dvd version of the series.

Check out (Internet Movie Database);

Princess Mononoke

Samurai X : Trust and Betrayal
[*] 'Trust' and 'Betrayal' were released separately, but get the director's cut with both of them

Samurai X : The motion picture (ok, but not as good as above)

Diskworld: Wyrd Sisters very funny (Terry Pratchett)

Diskworld: Soul Music - good, but slower and not as funny as above, poor menu structure on the DVD

Ghost in the Shell

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

Spriggan

Jin Roh

Castle of Cagliostro

Patlabor 1 / Patlabor 2

Armitage III OVA (there was also a movie made by editing the OAV, which cut out half an hour)

Armitage Dual Matrix - the sequel to above

Ushio and Tora (Complete Collection, 10 episodes), quite funny

thanks for the suggestion, raze. never thought u would respond 2 this. never thought u're one of the anime fans as well.

i've watched samurai x, the prequel OVA & it rocks. heck some say it's better than the campy series.

ghost in the shell is great as well. i've watched it on video cd & still look for the dvd version of the movie.

final fantasy is also great & i feel that many hate the ending as it's not what they like; the typical hollywood hero lives & wins the day ending. i kinda like it as it's darker & yet hopeful.

i've watched pat labor series on tv & it's nice as it doesn't concentrate 2 much on the labor bots, rather on the people who work with them.

have yet 2 watched the rest on your list & thanks for the info. will look into them once i find them on the local market.

I have not seen very much on TV, and tend to avoid series (though I have a couple written down I may rent to see if it would be worth buying all 27 DVDs.
I'm lucky there is one place here that has a fair selection of anime (4'x6' section of shelves), and another with poor selection but sometimes good prices. I got a few from amazon.ca as well.

I liked ghost in the Shell, but couldn't see what was so amazing about it.
Same with Jin Roh; presumably a lot of people think it is wonderful, but I would not have got it had it not been on sale. It is good, but CAN$90 for the special edition, when most anime is under CAN$30 and some (rarely) as low as CAN$20? I got the regular DVD.

"final fantasy ... i kinda like it as it's darker & yet hopeful."

Me too.

"i've watched pat labor series on tv & it's nice as it doesn't concentrate 2 much on the labor bots, rather on the people who work with them."

I agree; I'm not usually into giant robots.

Grave of the Fireflies is way to poignant, and nocando depressing.

I have the special edition of Akira as well. Aside from the popup bubbles with translations of graffiti and signs (none of which are interesting or useful), I don't think there is much difference between that and the updated re-release version. The special edition has an interview with the director using black subtitles, superimposed over his black and white checker shirt (making most of it unreadable). The description of the music production was interesting, when you could read it.

I have a list of DVDs that I am keeping an eye out for, or may get if they go on sale;

AD Police (all 12 episodes)

Blood Reign

Hellsing ?? (4 volumes)

Nausicaa

Neon Genesis Evangelion (??) 8 DVD series collection
+ 2 movies : Death and Rebirth, The End of Evangelion
(have to rent some of this first, but it is suppose to be really good)

Now and Then, Here and There
3 DVDs : Discord and Doom, Flight and Fall, Conflict and Chaos

Record of Lodoss War: Episodes 1-13 (Collector's Edition, 2 Discs)

Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight

Samurai X: Reflection

Wisper of the Heart

Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Record of Lodoss War! that series is great, raze. in fact it's so lord-of-the-rings, with an elf, human, dwarf, etc.... . party-based, anything rpg, it's definitely the show that dungeons & dragons movie should be.

as for ghost in the shell, if u look at the time it was out(in japan, not US/Canada), the storyline's very very good. very thought provoking & watching that movie made spielberg's AI not so impressive. seen it before. much like dark city is cooler than matrix with all its trilogy. by the way, for the uninitiated, dark city comes way before the matrix. that's why i yawn 2 the matrix. only like the animatrix. have u watched this, raze? u can get the first 4 episodes free from its website.

u're right about grave of the fireflies. i had 2 use all of my willpower not 2 cry when watching the movie. & i only watched it once. & no more. still, i love it for the wonderful & yet tragic characters & story.

I quite liked Ghost in the Shell (and I'd watch it again before most hollywood stuff), I just don't see why some people seem to think that it (or Akira) is the greatest movie ever made.

I wasn't really impressed with Dark City; I could see the potential of the story, but it seemed to come up short. I watched the first couple of episodes of the Animatrix at my brother's place, but wasn't there long enough to see it all.

well no movie/show is perfect. that's one thing for sure.

animatrix is mixed bag of goodies. some are toffee, some are chocolate, some are candies, some are jellies, etc. there's definitely some that is good for u, raze.

Like janggut said the topic isn't dead, nice to know, hey people if i can indicate a good anime here it is: Mahou Tsukai Tai - it's about a girl with powers, not natural(i don't what is correct, i think is wich-woman with magic powers). It's a very nice anime, another good is cowboy bebop, and X(very good).

well i haven't watch that movie but my brother told me it's really great & violent as well.

maybe u know, maybe u don't; hime means princess, so in japanese they say mononoke hime & in english it's princess mononoke.

have u watched Hellsing series? it's about vampires & undead & the organisation that fight against them. it's very dark, violent & it's great! there isn't any moral of the story here but then most movies/series don't. check it out!

i usually visit Anime On DVD website for reviews & all that.
