Cannot 'Continue' or 'Load' game. Good Afternoon,
I've put about 20 hours into this game now and this is the first time I've come onto the load screen and both the 'Continue' and 'Load' buttons are greyed out and I cannot click on them, meaning that I cannot load my game.
Does this mean that I've lost my entire game progress? Can anyone help me to resolve this as this could potentially ruin the entire game for me.
Thanks,
Drake.

Hey Drakesar,
Could you check the following: - did you happen to create a new profile ? if so, this will not have your previous savegames - if you did not create a new one, please check in windows explorer if your profile and savegames are still present on your disk: an example : ..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin\PlayerProfiles\zxcvzxcvzxcv\Savegames - did you perhaps use the divinity modding tool and load up a mod ?

I've had the same problem once, I suspect it was due to Steam "synchronizing" (in that case deleting my saves). That was around the time Larian disabled the Steam-cloud feature. My saves contained only empty folders after it happened, luckily I had only just arrived in Cyseal anyway.

Good Evening, guys!
Larian, I didn't change profiles, however I did follow your instructions with regards to entering the savegames folder, I click on the folder and I instantly get an error message barring me from entering it, the message tells me that folder has become corrupt and damaged. I have no idea how this came about, I've been playing PC games my entire life and this is the first time I've had this issue.
This is genuinely disheartening as me and my brother had been playing together on the same saved game file, we had put 20-25 hours into the game and it is unlikely that we would revisit it as this would mean having to do all the same quests over again, as fantastic as this game is, every re-run of a quest would be a reminder of the time lost.
It's a terrible shame as this is the type of game I've been waiting for since the original Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate.
Best regards,
Drake.

randomly started having similar issue, except mine arent greyed out, my game just crashes when I try to continue or load a previously saved game. I have been past the point Im at now (on a restart playthrough) and Im about 20 hours in. Really hope I dont have to start over.
Starts loading up the saved game, then after about 7 or 8 seconds, crashes

I'm having the same issue with the game crashing on loading. I can go back to an earlier save and load it successfully, even create new saves, but the game will crap out on me eventually. When I try to load the last save, it will crash on loading. Never had this problem before and I did a lot of loading and saving (it's not the easiest game around). Issues started today while I was inside the orc/pirate cave on Cyseal beach, though I'm not sure it has anything to do with the location. If anyone from Larian is listening, this is the chain of events leading up to current issues: - game locked up during a quick save just after the orc/pirate battle inside the cave. Had to kill the game with task manager - when I tried to restart the game, Steam wanted to update to 1.0.63, so I let it - game crashes during loading the last save (not the one done inside the cave, that one apparently never made it to disk) - could successfully load a save before the battle just outside the cave, so I went through that again - made it past the static cloud inside the cave - making some saves along the way - before the game would crash again - can't load any saves from my second run through the cave. The last save that loads is still the one just before the battle outside the cave. Taking a break for now, hoping somebody from Larian will provide some good news soon

I also cannot save after I defeat the orcs on Cyseal beach. I can load any save files before it, but as soon as the big orc is dead I cannot save. Also submitted my report.zip.

Same here, can't load any saves that I have saved today. Was at the Black Cove area as well. Unfortunately they are all quicksaves and my last save that will load is from two days ago. Don't feel like doing hours over again...

Same thing for me playing co-op. Same area.
We killed the orcs on the beach, and saved upon doing so. We entered the cave, fought the pirate/orc combo, saved, then went down to the Source monster. We weren't ready for him, and tried to reload the last save, which just shut down my game entirely. Tried that a few times without luck, and it kept trying to load for 10 seconds or so, then would shut down. The prior saves didn't work either, so we decided to just call it for the day.

I'm also crashing upon attempting to load any save once the Orc Boss near Black Cove has been defeated. While I can continue progressing and saving normally, no matter what I do after that particular battle concludes (enter Black Cove, return to Homestead, etc..), save games simply will not load as they result in a crash to desktop.
This includes both quick-saves and normal saves.

*Exact* same issue, just happened to me.
I have a save game just before the orc fight, which loads OK ; everything after killing the orc leader crashes the game on load.

I click on the folder and I instantly get an error message barring me from entering it, the message tells me that folder has become corrupt and damaged. Try running ScanDisk, and see if that fixes the problem (it may not, but at this point it can't really make it worse). Right click the drive in Windows Explorer and select properties, switch to the Tools tab, and click the 'Check now' button. we had put 20-25 hours into the game and it is unlikely that we would revisit it as this would mean having to do all the same quests over again It goes quicker the second time around, when you have a better idea of what you are doing and can skip a lot of the running around (you can also switch to easy to speed up combat until you get back to where you were). If you don't want to try different character builds, though, I can see where just doing quests in different ways may not be enough variation for an immediate restart.

This includes both quick-saves and normal saves. same exact thing happened to me as well just now. came here and found that i'm not the only one with this issue. it seems related to any saves after the Orc Boss's defeat near Black Cove. EDIT: i loaded a save from before the Orc Boss's death and it was fine, so to me, that's definitely indicative of an issue that somehow triggers off that encounter.

Try browsing to the '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder and renaming the 'Divinity Original Sin' subfolder. This folder contains the saved games, configuration files and a level cache folder. Deleting or renaming it will get the game to recreate it on startup; playing the game from a different Windows user account would effectively do the same thing. After that, start D:OS and create a new profile, then you can either try starting a new game and save/load, or copy your current saves from the renamed folder to the new profile's savegames folder to check.
