I just started using the engine today and I've been experimenting with basic terrain design so far. I've watched the video tutorials and it I don't seem to understand a few things.

1. Is there a way to bypass the 20 layer types per terrain?

2. How do I add water to the map. (I've tried using some water files on the editor and it looks like water moving on top of land.)

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums!

1. I didn't know there is a 20 layer limit, thanks for letting me know! I guess you can't, it's probably an engine limit - at least that's usually the motivation for a limit in other game engines. The more layers on a terrain, the more rendering has to be done, the bigger the performance loss, so I assume Larian had their reasons.

2. If you want to make something like a lake, I suggest you open the Root Templates window and drag and drop a water sheet into your level. Afterwards you can scale it as you please to avoid it getting through other parts of your terrain.

Thanks for the response! Any idea how I can get my water to look rather see through? When I tried it the land appears to disappear straight into the water once it goes below it.

Search for "Water" in the RootTemplates, there should be a bunch of objects you can add that are transparent.

Yep, but they all have a limited transparency from what I saw.

So, should your terrain be too deep/the water sheet too high above the terrain, the material will obscure it.
