.... is it worth spending any points in? I'm thinking of using a mage/ranger & wondering if this skill would make any noticeable difference when using the bow or if I should just ignore it.

I believe bow skill makes you shoot faster. Shorter recuperation time.

I started a survivor ranger on hard; the first level in Bow Expertise wasn't anything wonderful, but I definitely noticed a significant improvement with the second level.
