So in my True Lone Wolf playthrough (where I only use a single Lone Wolf Source Hunter while the other one is dead) I have noticed that occasionally enemy Archers know exactly where to shoot their arrows, even though there is a great big Smoke cloud obscuring their vision of me (no Line of Sight) and I have hidden under a rock and moved (Sneak).

Needless to say, my Source Hunter doesn't last long after the arrow uncovers his Sneak. Does anyone know how the game determines whether the enemy can see where I am or not?

LoS can be a little finicky. Most of the time if I can't see the enemy, they can't see me. But be aware that archer units seem to have pretty decent Perception, often enough, so their sight cones are fairly broad. Also, archers have a lot of AoE options, and they don't have to be able to see you directly to hit you with that. Without knowing what is actually hitting you, I'd only suggest you see if you're getting killed by direct hits, or AoE. As far as them spotting you in the first place, you know full well how touch-and-go Stealth can be. Is Invisibility an option for you?

My Lone Wolf relies heavily upon the Smoke Screen provided by burning oil/ooze, which to my understanding cuts off all Line of Sight through it. Archers, when they hit, are hitting with direct arrow shots straight to my undercover rock through the Smoke.

The times that Sneaking with smoke has consistently failed me is when I am next to an enemy in Melee range and I Midnight Oil -> Fire myself (to generate smoke) -> Sneak with the enemy immediately next to me. In those cases all of the enemies can hit me including the melee units.

I feel like enemies know where your last known position is, and if you actually are there then they are capable of hitting you (and if not, they don't do anything). The problem is that archers are still hitting me during some fights through smoke even after I have moved after entering Sneak mode.

Most of the time I am able to pick off enemies without them knowing where I am. It's just the few times that the Archers notice where I am through the Smoke cloud that I have to restart the fight.
