First of the UI is awful, lot of grammar and vocabulary issues :

- Most items/objects names are senseless because you keep using english grammar in french (yes, each language has a different grammar, huh)

- Menus and tooltips translations are wrong

- Items effects translation are fucked up and don't mean anything

The story dialogs fails at transcripting the humor and this just lead to vulgarity.

I won't mention forgotten translations, non-senses, lack of a real writing style etc...

This is the biggest issue, and I guess this is the case for many languages.
This as been pointed in many reviews (except english reviews of course) and I take this as a total disrespect.

I really hope for fixes as I'm prone to not buying your next game.

Yup, this is why I'm always playing games in english. Even when translation to my native language is available, english version is nearly always superior. It's very hard to translate jokes etc. without quality loss, and very often translations are obviously done by people who didn't even play the game, and lack understanding of skills, weapon effects etc, which often leads to the problems with their descriptions. It's a very common problem, and while AAA titles translations are bearable, more indie games translations are often just unplayable. Even when i was younger and didn't understand lot of english words, it was still less annyoing for me to look at the dictionary every 5 minutes, than to go through completely fucked up polish translation.

All translations are horrible. French is horrible. Play in original language.

Not everyone is fluid in English.

Yeah, but if you understand basics, you can become fluent pretty fast. Reading books, playing games etc. in english, is one of the fastest and easiest ways to accomplish it.

If you stopped playing localized games and started watching TV series and movies in their original language with no subtitles of english subtitles you would be in just a couple of months.

Only if English had direct equivalents to the words of a language you already know and used the exact same grammar.

You can't become fluent in a language at an older age purely through limited exposure. You need to learn the rules of that language among other things.

Anyway, the translation is awfull, I remember Baldur's Gate (1 and 2) the tranlations were nearly perfect, so if you have the will you can make a good version.

To all of you giving recommendations how to learn better English: thanks, but I'm already good enough. But not everyone is willing to do so or has the time to do so and a game should be entertaining or not.ｴ? If you don't properly understand most of what is written or said in a video game it's way less entertaining for people who are not very fluent in English.

And actually there is a localized version and there is no reason why it shouldn't be as good as possible.

I wonder whether you would be lucky if Witcher 3 was only released in Polish. I mean, you could learn the language just in a few months by watching Polish movies and TV series, or not?

But this is kinda weak argument in general, because polish is one of the hardest languages in the world. And english is one of the easiest. Anyone can learn basic english in ~3 months. My friend's mother recently did this, and she is 58 years old. And once you know basics, you can easily improve your understanding by reading books, watching TV shows and playing games. I've learned it that way. I loved fantasy books, and many of good titles weren't translated yet, so I've tried to read them in english, even though my knowledge of it was very basic. Was damn hard at the beggining, but after few weeks I've realized that suddenly I'm doin it without much problems, because even if i didn't understand some words, I could still pretty accurately guess the meaning of the whole sentence. Reading like this, I've learned more english in 3-4 months, than in a dozen or so years of school education.


Though of course, while playing games/reading books etc. is possible with basic english, and it can be a good way to learn, it is nowhere near comfortable, and there is no reason to force people to do it, instead of just letting them enjoy playing translation. It should be their decision, in which language they want to play, and everything I've said is definietly not the excuse for poor translations.
