Can you make a little network between both comps? Or can you connect the internet to the other comp?

For now you can use a sneaker net (run back and forth with floppies ). Use Chainsaw to cut the patch into floppy size chunks.

Do you have an internal modem in the HP? For an external ethernet based modem you would be able to connect the modem to a router (possibly including a firewall), and connect both computers to that. Check with your ISP and see if you can get them to replace the modem with one compatible with your new computer (preferably external ethernet based). You may be able to add a NIC to the HP to network them, or setup a direct cable connection between the computers.

if both computers have network cards, then the one with internet should create a diskette which when executed in the other computer will enable connection between the two.

first internet sharing must be enabled in the computer with internet. this can be done in control panel, under add/remove program. one of the tabs will have that option. when that's enabled, then u can create that diskette.

physically, u need a network cable 2 run between them. a minimum of 10 metres is needed, i think.

anyway, if that is the path u choose then let me know so i'll provide more info.

easy dude, don't lose hope yet. to make it easy for u, choose raze's method of sneaker net or diskette transfers.

it involves little thinking & a lot of 'running'.

try it b4 giving up.

"if i do the um sneaker net, how do i know if the patch does not become corrupted or something?"

The same way you would know it got corrupted during download... it probably would not run, just give an error message. To be sure, you could zip it first, then split the zip file (successfully extracting it on the new computer would ensure it was not corrupted by the transfer).

"and did i happen to mention the fact that i am really really clueless abt computers?"

If both computers are running XP, I have heard that it is relatively easy to setup a direct connection. The easiest solution if you don't need internet access on both computers is to call your ISP and tell them you have a new computer and would like switch your access to it; they may send somebody out to make the required changes. The next easiest thing would be to find a computer geek friend/relative/co-worker and invite them over for dinner. The site with tutorials has fairly detailed and straightforward descriptions; that was one of the places I checked when putting a couple NICs in one computer to make a network (to share internet access) a few years ago (routers were fairly expensive at the time, which would have been a bit simpler procedure). I was already familiar with computers, though, just not networking.
