This is my first time playing a game like this and I'm just wondering is there a way to make a certain character attack first. When I first started the game, I made a Knight and a Wizard but for some reason the Wizard always get to attack first before the Knight. Is there a way to choose who attacks first, second etc? Also how does attack of opportunity work? My character has the talent but does it just activate automatically? I could also use help with choosing how to position the characters in general, like how to choose how goes where on formations. I'm not really that far into the game as I want to figure this out before I get further in.

-attack of opportunity will typically activate when an opponent crosses into the physical weapon range.
-the wizard will normally attack first because of higher speed/movement/initiative and the fact there is no armor penalty for wearing robes. for example my ranger always goes first
-character formations really depend on personal style and strategies. I typically use the T formation or the arrow head, with the warrior in front (if i know enemies are ahead and im willing to run right into them) or with the ranger first so his lucky find and perception (may not be relevant) are in full force and so i can be even lazier and not have to always switch to the one then back and so forth.

-but usually warrior first, mages on the side and archer in the rear (they have the longest range)

I hope this helps!

You'll want to read your character sheet closely for this kind of game because they usually have fairly generic terms to help you out.

Initiative is what determines the order in which monsters/allies attack, which is predominantly based on Perception but can be modified with gear as well as the leadership ability.

AoO are automatic with the talent and you only get 1 per round regardless of the enemies who leave your attack zone.
