Hi All

I've never played a game like DOS before but am really impressed so far. The graphics are great, the limited story that I have seen so far is good, the battles are great. Lots to the plus side!

Unfortunately, perhaps because I am not an expert in the genre, I am really stuck. I can't get my characters to a level to let me tackle the quests I have left.

My reasonably well armed group is low/mid level 4 and have completed these quests:

Little Bo Bertia
The Philosopher
The Lost Archaeologist
Charmed, I'm sure
The Grieving Orc
Warming the crowd
Fire! Fire! Fire!
The Fish Thief
The Apprentice and the Stone
The Teleporter Pyramids
Orc Fight on the Beach
Guards at the Bridge

I've also gone around the NW area of the map and killed off a lot of level 3/4 mobs, which were quite tough.

Most of the quests that I have left want to send me out of the North or East gate and the guards advise me not to. I did try it out of the East gate but found the mobs were too high a level.

So, what to do? Have I missed some important quests or should I just continue on regardless?

Thanks for any help

Go west young man. Go out the north west gate and keep going pretty much west. Find a lighthouse.

Hmm, I never experienced this problem so I am not sure what was different in my play throughs. I think I was higher level, I think, after clearing all of the western part of the first act. If you go out of the western gate you have quite a few encounters with skeletons. Just behind the archologist and on your way to the light house. You also have more encounters towards the burial mounds.

After that you should be able to go up north. I think level 5 is enough to go up north. When you reach level 6, even 5, you can go to the black cove at the beech. That will give you at least one or two levels.

After black cove I would go to the east.

All that said, just take it slow and feel your way forward. If you can't beat an encounter the first time, take some time to think about what you can do different and try different tactics. There is no shame in failing a bunch of times and will just make you tactically better in fights.

How much exploring did you do to the west? At low level missing a fight reduces your XP by so much that it isn't worth it, if you want to maintain an advantage you need to get involved with every possible fight you can.

Also, DOS is more of a freeform game than 'I have to go towards this quest because it's all that I have left to do' - if you play with that mentality (I'm not saying that you do, but in case that is the case) then you are likely to miss a lot of interesting opportunities.

If you get really stuck, abelhabel's suggestions are good, and you can also find an optimal Cyseal area order somewhere on the forums.

Good luck!
