My friend and i have been playing a lot of D:OS, and it has been nothing short of fantastic (for the most part at least, i really don't like randomized loot) but i have run into a sticking point in the use of smoke, it behaves inconsistently and i cannot for the life of me figure out how it works. Here are some cases where smoke was in effect.

Case 1: there is smoke between my opponent and I, i cannot shoot through, my opponent can

Case 2: there is smoke covering my opponent, i cannot shoot through, my opponent can

Case 3: There is a smoke cloud surrounding my ally and myself, i cannot fire, neither can my opponent

Case 4: There is smoke surrounding my ally and myself, i cannot fire, my opponent can

Possibilities:

1. Smoke is bugged, will have to wait for a patch to be able to use it effectively

2. Enemies share vision, and being in melee range in smoke allows enemy archers to fire on you, will have to test this further.

It would be easier to tell if smoke is working correctly if i knew how exactly it was meant to function in the first place, but I've yet to see any info from Larian on that subject. Once i know that, maybe i'll be able to use it to good effect in combat (provided it isn't bugged).

Number 2 is definitely true. It is true for your own party as well. If any of your party members can see an enemy, all party members can target it.

Smoke works by blocking vision within and through it. Basically if you draw a line from two points and that line passes through smoke, the two points are not visible to each other (unless the points are really close to each other).

You can shoot through smoke the same way the enemies shoot through smoke- hold Ctrl and aim your projectile a little bit behind the enemy. You're technically targetting the ground, but because the enemy is in the way it'll hit them.

Case 1 and 2:

You can actually shoot the opponents if you have another team member who can see the opponents directly to provide sight (not hindered by the smoke).

I don't understand case 3 and 4
