And now it seems I can't complete 3 sub quest. I have no idea how he died, since from what I remember I killed the spider Queen first, then met Frederick. And lo and behold after a while I return and find his corpse. Is this is a bug?

If I remember correctly, I talk to him, left him there, found his slave, haven't kill the spider queen and found him dead with few green loots.

I'm pretty sure convincing the imp to talk to Frederick has something to do with his demise. He never seems to die before this happens; he always seems to die shortly after.

Well, he *is* wounded and dying when you meet him. What did expect?

Well, Alfie is still sticking around whom I met earlier. I still have not heal him.

There is a good chance he died in spider Queen fight. I have done it several times, and he usually enters the fight, and some times he get killed by small summoned spiders far, far away.

I talked to him @ level 3 just to see if he sold legendaries at that level. Returned at around lvl 10 and he was dead.

Never initiated quest dialogue. So I'm guessing you have a limited amount of time once discovering / interacting with him before he up and dies.
