One thing I find curious about games in general is while many allow the option to choose your character's gender, if often ends up being mainly an aesthetic choice. 99% of the game remains identical whether you choose a male or female hero, with the remaining percent largely coming down to which character you want to see on your screen (and the occasional remark of "sir" or ma'am" by a random NPC). It largely ends up being an inconsequential choice in terms of where the story goes, with very little change (if any) with how the world reacts to your character.

I must admit I'm not familiar with the Divinity games (or the CRPG genre as a whole), but hearing the praise about the story has certainly piqued my interest for the game, particularly the fact that the game lets you choose 2 protagonists.

I realize this is still a new game and people are still busy uncovering all of it, but I was curious if this was one of the rare games where your main character's gender actually has some impact in the story? Do certain story moments play out differently depending whether your interacting character is male or female? Does it change certain quests in the game?

Just curious if the world in the game feels like it acknowledges your character's gender, as I feel that's something not often seen in games. Thanks.

So far none at all.

You actually have two main characters, not one. And both of them can be male or female.

Yup... unlike pretty much all RPG's which give one protaganist so if you want to see the differences for male and female you need to play twice, you can do that within one playthrough here.

Yeah I wasn't very clear in my first post, but I guess I'm just curious if you pick a male and female protagonist, do NPC's interact with each of them differently? I'm just wondering if things in the game play out differently if you have 1 male, 1 female hero (or 2 female heroes for that matter), versus just having 2 male characters. Do quests play out differently and stuff like that.

Not only does it not make a difference, but parts of the game assume one of your characters is male and the other is female even if both of them are not!

That sounds like they forgot to update conversation options, like with Arhu when you complete the first map.

She doesnt talk to you if you use Scarlet or have two female Source Hunters either.
