Going through Iona's Dungeon, I am running into lots of liches.

When I kill some of these liches, an unusual sound occurs - sort of a rising note that lasts about a full second. It makes me think of the lich's soul rising from its corpse.

This does not happen when I kill other liches. So, I am wondering if this sound signifies something, or is merely ear candy.

I do not notice a drop in stats or other values in my character sheet after the sound occurs.

There are a few tougher liches (more hps, more exp) I cannot remember whether the sound ever accompanied any of their deaths. The sound has definitely accompanied the deaths of some (but not all) the lesser liches.

Thanks for any responses to this (probably too esoteric <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" />) question.

Liches use a spell called life leech. That's probably the sound you're hearing. Try out the spell for yourself and see if it's the same.
