Something I didn't like in were the platforms - Not the platforms on themselves, but the fact there were some huge platforms with only a few "stairs" to get up/down the platform. Which resulted in having to travel long routes around some platforms to reach the other side - especially a boring trip if you'd cleared the area of baddies before. And especially rediculous considering my hero has divine ambitions but can't climb a platform that's barely as high as (s)he is him/herself

A bit more of those stairs would really be nice

Maybe they should make the valley's deeper. One of the things that bugged my in the Wasteland and the Dark Forest was that you couldn't see behind the tall cliffs. They need the cliffs to disappear, like the walls in The Sims, when you walk behind them. Then they could make those wimpy little hills taller!

Please no jump possibility. Reminds me of the very bad jump feature of Ultima VIII

Hey, Jump was useful in combat in Diablo II. Especially when you jumped on someone.

Dunno, it kind of takes away the point of having platforms... Especially if both the hero and baddies can climb it = lots of extra work for the animators/programmers as well. If only the hero can climb it he could use it as a chicken way to escape from his followers = too easy...?

Seriously, what's wrong with more stairs?

O
I know.

I just liked the idea.

How about tunnels? If you can't get over them, go through them.

I liked the platforms. They divided the map nicely and made the roads a little more interesting. They were infuriatingly low, though.

Of course, artistically, some huge rocks and small hills could have added more terrain variety, but the problem is that in an isometric view a high platform would hide the creatures and the hero more too often.

The function of platforms is that the edge would act exactly as a wall to keep the creatures from flowing all over the place.

I do encourage having a jump animation for the hero to jump down from a low platform but to climb on his /her way up. Creatures are not supposed to be able to follow because the game is in a fantasy world that has its own rules. I was disappointed to know that the hero could not “climb” or step up on a chair because I had a plan to bring one out beside the platform to make a step. If the hero could climb up and jump down, then stairs or steps would not be needed unless there was a structure on the platform with a path that extends to those steps.
Also, platforms need not be vertical-cliff-contoured all the way around but with some side having a ramp could be a cool idea also.

Thanks.

I once wrote kind of an article whetrein I stated that these "platforms" once had been hills and even mountains, but been flattened through centuries of (dwarfish =?) work.

That was my explanation of them.

Speaking of which, check out this comic strip (for some background), then this one about rocks/jumping.
The comic just before the one with the rocks explains why there are treasure chests scattered around the land.

Well, another thing that cries for explanation are the sophisticated Dungeons - complete with luminiscence, statues, levers and so on.
