Quest says I found his bloodstone shard, but alas, he's dead and the quest is unsolvable now, no idea what killed him, but I did manage to complete the slaves and masters quest at least.

Anything I can do with this quest or will it forever remain unsolved now?

He was constantly bleeding, so guess what killed him? ;-)

Yep, my Frederick died too. Kinda lame that the quest stays uncompleted if he just bleeds out while you're gone.
