Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Ending: Cornelius neutral, won't attack

I'm at the end and eliminated all the black ring members except for Cornelius. I get to his room where he gives me his little speech. The screen centers on me again, I ready my Freeze spell and... He doesn't attack... When I put the mouse cursor over him it says neutral (0) and I can't seem to find a way to kill hime anyway or to make him mad. If I click on him it doesn't do anything...

Anyone can help? Have I missed something or is this a glitch.

Do you have a recent save you can re-load and try again? It is a glitch; he should have turned hostile as soon as the conversation ended.

I had a save not too far away and used it, many times. tried going out of the maze and back in to no effect. And I don't seem to have anything left to hurt him with if he's not marked as an enemy.... I do have the latest patch (1.34)...

Is there askill I could take that would allow me to kill him anyway? I have one skill point lying around...

Try using area spells like poisoness cloud. Use it near him not on him. This way may take quite some time though.

Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

This isn't really a cut scene problem itself, but try running the configuration program and switching to software mode, and maybe reduce the resolution. Then try starting Divinity and loading that save again.

If this, or an area effect spell, do not help, you may by able to use the trick in Josephine herself stuck in the wall, though I will have to find an appropriate save. Email me, and I'll send you the file (I don't have enough room left on my web site for it).


PS If Poison Cloud does work, use iZakaroN's SaveEditor to give yourself the points to max it.

OK, tried thepoison cloud and killed him, did his little dying speech and then I realize that save no longer works. Through testing I realize save stops working the moment he does his first speech when I enter the room...

So since I couldn't save I went all the way to the Demon of Lies and... He's at Neutral and doesn't event talk to me when I come in... No area effect spells actually affect him... So I'm stuck again...

Raze, do you really think the stuck in the wall trick would work for this?

If saving is disabled, then it most likely means the game still thinks the cut scene is still running, which in turn is why he didn't turn hostile.

As long as killing Cornelius updates something in the story.* files (or anything in addition to the data.000 file), swapping data files should work.

I temporarily moved a file off my web space to make some room for this data.000 file; let me know when you have it.

Cornelius (616KB) - from a save immediately after the conversation ended. Watch out for his Blind / Hell Spikes combo, I had to use my first minor restoration potion of the wastelands (for healing) during this fight (I used two fighting the Demon of Lies and a few to recover mana after using Lockpick and Repair).

This should work, but if not, I can email you a save just before Cornelious or the Demon of Lies, so you can do the final fight and watch the end movie and credits.
