none of my chars have lockpicking and smashing the doors/chests seems to break my weapons. so, is there an open lock spell?

Yes, it is called fireball ;-) Just use your spells to break doors and you are fine.

Just carry a repair hammer.
With Blacksmith 1 you can repair everything to full pretty easily.
Now if you are annoyed, use spells like eidolon told you.
