This quest book has seemingly vanished from my inventory. I have checked all my characters and every shop I have had access to. I picked the quest at level 5, am now level 10 and none of my recent saves has the book. I went back to a low level profile and those characters could get the book.

I only ever sold the craft books so no idea how it vanished, it doesn't show up on shop list with the character that has the book so cannot be sold as far as I know. I have doubled checked this, the book is not visible to be sold, so must be a bug rather than an error.

I have LSTools but I have not found a way to redisplay the book in my characters inventory.

I only reached silverglen today and found the book missing.

Okay, I could have sworn I sold mine, I figured I must've dropped it too, but this sounds REALLY familiar from when I hit Silverglen as well, the Will was just gone.

Could you have sent the book to your homestead chest, or something?

The only possibility is like you say I sent it to the homestead and it vanished.
Or I got another quest item with same ID and it has overwritten the first once.

LSTools makes it so you cannot edit your characters look in the homestead when you try editing things in the Globals.lsb, that's where I thought the inventory / item would be located.
Think I just avoid it and retry the game.

If you filled your homestead chest up to the capacity of the UI to show items, you may need to use the 'take all' button/hotkey to get anything else sent there that isn't visible.

That's one of the first things I did. I had read a suggestion to do that. But still was no book in the chests.

Still I doubt I sent the book to the homestead, it wouldn't have weighed anything so wouldn't have been a need.

Maybe if more people get the issue, the cause will sort itself out.

You can email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS support tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information, any crash dumps, and your saved games. To reduce file size, you could delete all saves except the latest one(s) where you have the will/book, the oldest where they are missing, and your most recent save. If you remember what you did between the two saves where the item(s) disappeared, that might help in reproducing the problem.

this happened to me to! i spent a whole lotta time finding the quil/ink pot too. but only like 10 hours after finding the ink/quill the will magically re-appeared in my inventory.

sounds fishy, but i never sold it, never dropped/destroyed it nor had i ever sent it to the homestead either. re-arranging my inventory over and over still had it missing until it re-appeared.
