Ok, I know this has been answered a thousand times but by the time I went to do the search on the old forum all the information was gone. Could someone please give me the low down on this necklace? Do I need it for something, will someone want it, is it worth anything?

Poor quarters: Balin wants it, he's missing it, but choose wisely and listen to both contrahents. ![[Linked Image]](http://kiya1.bei.t-online.de/images/Div_poor.jpg) Kiya

I'm sorry to be reviving old threads.. my apologies.. but I've done the quest both ways and I get the "Failed" message.. any thoughts on the "best" solution? Take out Jonas the seeming bully/murderer, or Balin, the known thief?
Dilemma dilemma.

Sassy, quests from Balin and Jonas are mutually exclusive. You cannot please both at once. It's your choice whose side you'll take.
Eliminating Balin gives you more Reputation though, so this is a hint enough, I guess

The "best" way is to take out Balin. He is kind of mean. Then go back and talk to Jonas again. That should clear the quest and give you a rep point. You are going to fail one of the quests, that is a given. The better one to fail is Balin's, if you are good.
I could have been very happy not knowing that.

I found the necklace & talked to Jonah. Then gave the necklace to Balin & received the experience. Then I killed Balin and took back the necklace, I was going to give it to Jonah to see if I could get experience again. When I got back to his house he was gone, all I found outside was a shield and a pile of gold.
Any one know where he went.
At this point in my journal the necklace quest is completed and nothing shows as "failed"

AFAIK Jonath disappears then... What I would like to know, did your reputation go up? Kiya

My rep. went down 1 point when I gave Balin the necklace. I do not think it went back up after I killed him

Well, then I don't understand your quest log... Killing Balin gives XP and +1 rep. Giving Balin the necklace (and probably sentencing J. to death) leads to a loss of rep. and lesser XP. Kiya
Though you're the first gamer IIRC doing it the way you did.

Because I first gave Balin the necklace I did loose 1 in rep. just as you say. The game outsmarted me by not letting me find Jonah after I killed Balin.
So I am going to reload and this time I will not give Balin the necklace.

I tried it that way to see if it gave more experience. Immediately after giving Balin the necklace, I ran to where Jonah was..... to find a large blood splatter, a few potions and a guard standing 3 feet away. No wonder you don't get any help with the orcs; they can't even stop a hit in broad daylight in the middle of a public place.

Yes, but the guards watch faithfully when you kill Balin - I had to take care not to hurt one of them Kiya
