Ok, so if you
kill Cecils daughter before completing either Cecil's Mighty staff or The Fabulous Five
he won't
ask for his staff or conclude the quest respectively. All he keeps saying is "Oh my heart! It's breaking! I can't bare it."
I could care less about your heart! Oh my sweet quest log, its breaking and I can't bare it frown

Anyone know of a work around for it?

Other than "don't do that, then", no.

The plot, she is breakable. You break the plot; the plot she is broken. It's a design feature, and a consequence.

It would be kind of weird otherwise. "Oh, my poor daughter, how could you do this to her? Oh, thanks for the staff, my great heroes. How could you???"

There's a few other quests that can be broken like that. For whatever reason, waving the item you were supposed to collect over a guy's corpse won't count as completing the quest.

I didn't kill her in front of him so he doesn't need to know I did it lol. I just happened to be the bearer of of the news. He should reward me for letting him know. Some people need to be more grateful :P

@PeteNewell - I'm not sure I'm completely understanding. I would understand if you killed Cecil before getting the quest Cecil's Mighty staff and not being able to complete it but even if you get the quest and kill Cecil getting it but before completing it then a note should appear in the quest log something like, "We killed Cecil before we could return his staff. We're dumb." -Quest ended.
Something just to get it off my list. I'm a bit OCD about quest not being removed.

I don't mind quests not being able to be completed, but the game should at the very least lable the quests as failed and remove them from the quest log.
I'm sure Larian will fix this. smile

That'd be a good idea. If I'm not able to complete the quest just tell me I screwed up and failed but remove my quest. My heart hurts seeing too many quests frown

Just came here to ask about this same thing. smile

I agree that if it's intended that they should be unfinishable, they should at least count as failed for the purposes of no longer showing in the active quest log.

It sort of makes sense that he's too grief-stricken to care about his staff any more (besides, it's way better than Jahan's old one... ャ_ャ). He could at least have paid Mendius for the quest though. He is still the mayor after all, daughter or no daughter.

I just feel sorry for his poor wife, how long is she going to be locked away in that bathroom for now? ャ_ャ

As for the quest log/journal in this game, I find the log/journal very confusing. To me, it would function a lot better if the quest were organised in a Main Quest area and in a Side Quest area. Also, items you'll need for the main quests should really go into an area of their own.
