Planescape: Torment is one of my "favorite of all times" games. It makes me extremely happy to see a new cRPG as good as this one, with a strong old school feeling yet modernized with many current-day conventions. Some of my favorite aspects of the game are:

A true, vast world. Today, often developers try to artificially inflate a game's longevity through grind, or through randomly-generated content that usually feels generic and empty (not to mention repetitive after a while; as often said in another recent good game, "when everything changes, nothing changes").

In Divinity: Original Sin, the world is truly vast, hand-crafted and busy. There is no grind (it's not even possible to grind), no artificial way to increase the longevity of the game just content, content and when you think you have seen all of it, even more content.

No voice acting constraining the game. It's very common these days to see developers insisting on adding voice-acting to all dialogues, which makes adding text to a game something incredibly expensive; often, the main storyline itself is completely wracked in order to make it as easy to voice as possible. Divinity: Original Sin realizes that players are not afraid to read, and so it adds a huge amount of very interesting dialogues and lore through the world.

A great combat system. It begins a little slowly, but once it opens up and you have more options and more ways to manipulate the environment, it's great. The impact the environment has in each fight is amazing - it's great to manipulate the battlefield like we do (even when accidentally trying to electrify an enemy makes my entire party fall over an electrified blood splash).

The game is, in many aspects, incredibly polished. For example, when a trap has been spotted, party members will automatically walk around it without having to be manually orders to do so. This is a great quality of life improvement; same with the way the party avoids poison clouds and similar hazards.

Another thing that shows how much care was taken even with the small things: the small story tidbits about the hirable henchmen are great. Even through a couple paragraphs, the developers have managed to imbue those henchmen with great backstories, many of which left me wanting to learn more.

Congratulations to Larian Studios for making such a great game, it's one of the best things I have played on the last years. There are only a few things I would like to change:

1. The two currently available companions are somewhat grating - both are extremely fanatical in their points of view. I gave up on playing with Madora in my party because she was waaaay too annoying. More companions in the future, and with different personalities than the current options, would be nice.

2. Inventory management is a bit messy. I really like the inventory filters, but IMO they are not really enough. I think the inventory would be more useful if we could use bags a bit better - please, let us dye the bags! By itself, this would really help with the inventory, IMO. Being able to resize the bags (so we can see more slots at once) and use items directly from them would allow players to keep most of their items organized in bags, so the main inventory wouldn't eternally be kept a mess due to the current sorting options and the eternal acquisition of new items.

3. The higher level spells are a bit underwhelming - Storm, Hailed Attack (the water one) and even Meteor Shower are a bit unreliable, and Earthquake is not only unreliable, it's often suicidal. Making those more interesting (I would love a way to create reliably a pool of water; Rain doesn't always work for this) would be really nice.

4. No idea if this is a bug, but it's something that greatly annoyed me: often, when playing with one character, dialogues would trigger with the other character, not the one I was controlling. For example, when using the first pyramid to teleport to Cecil's room, the game would always begin Cecil's dialogue with Source Hunter number 2, not Source Hunter number 1, who I was controlling when I used the pyramid. This was incredibly annoying, because Source Hunter 1 was the character with high charisma, not Source Hunter 2 (who the game kept starting dialogues with).

Other than those things, it's a great game. I'm dying for an expansion or a sequel with the same quality as D:OS smile

Dying bags gets a big +1 from me.

Rain actually is reliable. The pool of water is created in the dead center of the area-of-effect, and this center has its own graphic. It's just a little confusing. Once you realize this you can very easily use Elemental Affinity, et cetera.

#4 is not a bug, it's just that NPCs will trigger dialogues with the closest "acceptable" character in range. This means that some formations (such as the "everyone in front of me" formation) are very susceptible to triggering on a different character than you intend. You can circumvent this by moving your Charismatic character closer to the front row.

I found both companions annoying at first two (didn't even want to hire them), but I stuck with them anyway and their stories were really rewarding.

And, for the records, one more thing I wouldn't mind being changed is the respec system. Losing all skills isn't worth it, especially considering how some skills actually cannot be bought anywhere (or are extremely rare).

You know, if they just made it so the skillbook vendors in the Homestead carried every single book, every time you visit them, it would mostly remove that problem.

It's not like I didn't have money to spare, by the time I unlocked respeccing.

I found one of the stock companions annoying, but then I remembered BG etc had a couple of annoying characters too, its part of the genre, and aye, keeping him around was worth it in the end.

Pretty much agree with it all, though credit where credit is due, from what I know the hireling's backgrounds are written by Kickstarter backers, not Larian.

* New comps should come this month
* In automatic conversations with the whole party (End of Time)/upon reload it will automatically select the right memeber in character creation (the female). Yeah, no idea why... selected makes more sense to me (and if not, the left on in creation), but that's the way it is smirk.
