Dear Larian Forumgoers,

I'm currently trying to conduct a review on Divinity Original Sin, and I've encountered a roadblock that's kept me from progressing easily in the game.

In short the game crashes sometimes when I save, and often when I transition to a new area.

The following zones almost always lead to crashes:
  • The End of the World zone initiated by entering the murder scene in the King Crab Tavern
  • Entering the End of the World after choosing which patient should live
  • Trying to teleport back to Cyseal from The End of the World with the teleportation skill.
  • Random Save screens that last forever and never progress.

The crashes lead to a "DOS is not responding" error, which must then be closed manually.

It's to the point where I can barely move forward in the game and I'd like to figure out a fix so that I can actually play enough to warrant a bona fide review.

I understand that many games are riddled with bugs, but subsequent crashes on integral parts of the game--saving and moving to new zones--is terrible, and I'd like to figure out a solution so that the review isn't negatively impacted further.

Thanks for your help and I look forward in progressing in this great CRPG--half of the frustration is that I do want to play, not just because of the review, but to genuinely enjoy the game.

Hey hello,

nice of you to come and try find a solution instead of just deducting points thankyou

What version are you playing? Steam,Gog?
What OS are you on?
Do you have it with different save games? Have you tried a new game just to see if you can reproduce?
Here is the thread of my issue, maybe you can find some usefull troubleshooting tips?

You are most likely running int this issue.

This could be the case with you having a 32bit system and/or a low amount (less than 4GB) RAM.

If the 32bit case is at fault, simply do this:

It will free ressources reserved by the system.

Hey guys sorry for the late response.

I'm running DOS on:

Steam
Windows 7 32-Bit
Multiple save games -- 3 saves (most of which I know are defunct because I tried new characters to see if the crashes would stop).

Right now I'm on Win 7 and I took a screenshot of my specs and the like. I believe you're right, furball! Apparently I only have 2.47 GB usable out of my 4GB of RAM (something I need to fix asap!) and I took a screenshot below that might give more clues to the problem.

Also I haven't tried the renaming saved folder option as I didn't want to fiddle with any data--I'm really proud of my characters and progress thus far and I'd hate to lose them. BUT I will try it and see if I have any luck.

I'll be sure to try out the fix and report any improvements I might have.

Renaming the D:OS My Documents folder would only help if the main level cache files became corrupt or there was a problem in the configuration files (though in the latter case I think startup problems would be more likely than save and map transition issues).
