Near William McWishing Well, in Hiberheim, there are four pressure plates. I don't mean the four plates that must be pressed to prevent lava to spread, but the ones at both sides. That is, when you pull the lever, three doors open. The one at the center leads to the well, and the other two lead to these plates.

What are these plates for? I have put a character on each of them, "click" message appears, but notthing seems to happen.

Pressing all of them opens unpickable chest near the well itself. Chances are you had already bashed it open on the first visit by being teleported through it's brother in Cyseal. I'd say most people do it at that time.

You need to push keep the buttons pushed without being detected by the statues to solve the puzzle.

Siriondel: cannot confirm, because the chest is, indeed, already broken.

eidolon: Putting barrels on the plates doesn't have any effect (no "click!" messages). Is there any minimum weight or something?

You need barrels that weight >= 50 (75?) units. Iirc there are some heavy chests nearby.

You can kill the statues if you have the "make killable" spell. (the spell against the DeathKnights)

Dont know if the 4 Plates will open the chest after that. I put fireball on the chest.

I felt so good when I solved that puzzle.

Then I googled what it did (since I had no clue) and learned it opened a chest I destroyed about 40 hours earlier.
