This is a work in progress V1.0.0

Introductions:

Hello, im Logen and i wanted to make yet another post about character Builds, i will update atleast once a week, unless i notify otherwise.

Further, Give me your Build, pm me or mail me at "applicationwhitelist@gmail.com".

We have to start somwhere so here we go.

1: Ability Points
[Linked Image] There are 3 big things concerning ability points:

1: Leveling an ability costs ability points (obviously)

1 point to level it once
2 points to level it a second time
3 points to level it a third time
4 points to level it a fourth time
5 points to level it a fifth time

Source: http://divinity.wikia.com/wiki/Divinity:_Original_Sin_Abilities
this means that if you level a ability from 0 to 5 it costs 15 ability points(obvious im sure).

here is the trick though:
if you have a bonus point in the ability you want to level, you only need to level it 4 times, this saves you 5 points.

example: Charisma, leveling from 0 to 5 cost 15 ability points points, however if you have the "politician" talent and the "considarate" trait you gain 3 bonus points in Charisma making the cost of leveling from 3 to 5 cost 3 ability points

2: The Lone Wolf Talent
The Lone Wolf Talent, gives you 1 additional ability point every time you level up, 2 additional max action points, 2 additional recovery action points. Further it gives you 80% more vitality. However you can no longer have a companion.

3: The "Politician", "Scientist" and "All skilled up"

Politician gives you 2 additional ability points in Charisma, but takes away 1 attibrute point from inteligence.

Scientist gives 1 additional point in blacksmith and crafting.

All skilled up gives you 2 additional ability points to spend.

2: Attibrutes
All attribrutes starts at 5
At character creation the game gives you attribrutes 5 points to spend.
You gain 1 attribrute point every 2 levels up to 20
This means in total you get 15 points to allocate.

More here later.

3: Action Points
Action points are what you use in Divinity: original sin during combat to Attack, use abilities or spells(you all knew im sure).

Max action points: is how many action points you can at maximum have at once,
the base is 7 action points, your max action points is increased by 1 for every CON you invest.

Formula for Max ability points: 7 + CON x 1 - 5
Formula with Lone Wolf: 9 + (CON x 1 - 5)

Starting action points: is how many points you start a battle with,
the base is 2 action points, your starting action points is increased by 0,5 for every PER and SPD you invest.

Formula for starting action points: 2 + (PER + SPD) x 0,5 - 5
Formula with Lone Wolf: Lone Wolf does not affect starting action points.

Recovery action points: is how many points you recover/gain every round,
the base is 3,5 action points, your recovery action points is increased by 0,5 for every SPD you invest.

Formula for recovery action points: 3,5 + SPD x 0,5 - 2,5
Formula with Lone Wolf: 5,5 + SPD x 0,5 - 2,5

TIP: if starting action points is 6,5 you will in an actuall fight recover 7 points not 6,5. this is also true for recovery action points.

4: Traits
Traits are gained thrugh conversations between your characters.

Trait list:
[Linked Image]

5: Equipment
Coming when i bother, i'll get to it since its relevant.

For those intrested Builds
*Note* any build without an author is me, missing talents in my builds are not there by design, this is a character building guide not a just a list of builds, builds are here for reference or example.

Hey man. Thanks for posting your builds. Lots of good info here.

What difficulty are you looking at playing in and why no Glass Cannon? I spent some time trying to set up optimal, but cheese-free builds and decided to go with dual Lone Wolf/Glass Cannon builds. Seeing as Glass Cannon allows you to free up a lot of attribute points that would normally be spent on increasing the number of Action Points per turn (through Constitution and Speed) while retaining about the same amount of vitality with only half the attribute investment in Constitution.

I do think that getting Glass Cannon on all 4 characters is crossing a line in the sense that you can get a ridiculous amount of AP without sacrificing too much in Normal difficulty or less. That's the reason that I wanted to go with only two characters, but I feel like Lone Wolf without Glass Cannon reduces your build options too severely.

Personally, I regret getting Leech on my tanks in the first play through because I feel like it's a little overpowered when combined with high absorb from armor and a decent amount of Constitution. Add to this the fact that healing spells become too powerful and frequently usable as the game continues and somewhat trivialize the damage that enemies are allowed to do. Not to mention the fact that spells like Bloodletting equal a full heal.

I've tried to find builds that are rewarding to play and don't trivialize the combat portion of the game. I've just installed the Source Difficulty Mod from Nexus and I'm hoping that will even out some of the more glaring issues in the campaign and restore some of that healthy tension that is so prevalent in the first chapter's encounters.

"All Skilled Up" and "Bigger And Better" should not be taken on the main characters - they're okay for henchmen/companions - unless you're prepared to go through the hassle of a complete respec later on, since the same individual who allows respecs also lets you trade talents for much better ability/skill returns than those two talents provide.

First of all thanks for providing the general information to new players.
That being said, I have a few mayor problems with your suggestions:
-what difficulty are you playing on?
-Not even mentioning the brokenness of Glass Cannon, Leech, multicoating (using multiple essences on the same equipment to get to > 100% resistance), end of turn sneaking and the Seller of Secrets exploit
-builds are only for level 20 chars
-the +ability / attribute points books and the +int-per books
-homestead only crafter
-Moloch (respec and trading talents for ability/attribute points)
-Tenebrium
-Characters don't exist out of context. They have to be build to complement your party.

Thank you very much, thanks to you i now realize that i have to make a few additions to the first page such as a talents, multicoating or resistances. But please realize this is a work in progress, as such i had actually forgotten about the + ability and + attribrute books.

also some of you may hate me for this but i have yet to complete the game.

as it stands, i will add:

Resistance
Talents
Abilities + Tenebrium
Crafting (i will only include what i feel is relevant)
Recommended party (only when i have compiled the neccesary Builds)

example:
1 Char = STR - One handed - Man-at-arms - Shield
Tank/Damage [link]
2 Char = INT - Staff(lol) - Air and Water magic (i know but i can't spell the words from the top of my head)
Damage/Heal [link]
Companion Madora = two handed - Man-at-arms
Damage/Tank [link]
