I'm a relatively new player and was wondering if there was a way to kill friendlys, e.g. guards, without losing reputation.
I have done it once by accident but cant remember how.
Some of them drop some really sweet items.
e.g. cat statuette
Anyone have any ideas what this can be used for other than fun?
It keeps people from calling the guards if you steal from them. Killing civvies is difficult because they run, but you can pretty easily do it with either a spider statuette or Poison Cloud. As a spider, you can simply walk up and bite them (you can even transform right back into your human self right in front of them, and they'll never figure it out), and Poison Cloud lets you gas a clump of civvies. As soon as you poison somebody, they start hiccuping and running around, so it may take a while to actually kill them like this.
Frankly, though, your average guard and civilian aren't worth killing. They never drop that much, and only if they have a cat statue for sale are they likely to drop one. The only people worth doing this to are shopkeepers, and then only to run them out of the room. The blacksmith in Ars Magicana is a good one to bite, and Gero, the armorer in Ars Magicana, comes back quickly as soon as you bite him, so bite, rob a little bit, but keep an eye on the radar for when he's coming back, then bite him again.
If you absolutely must clean out a town, get a Giant Heavy Orc to follow you from the orc territory to the southeast. Those things can kill anything. I always lure one into the Town Guard HQ.
