Was doing my basic quests in Cyseal town square, so I had Madora and Jahan move over to the tavern to hang out in front of the fireplace near Unsinkable Sam. Moved some chairs in front of it for mere roleplaying effect and as soon as that happened, I apparently pissed off everyone in the tavern and they murdered my henchman outright for shifting a chair.

... not sure if it's technical or not, but looking at how the game script functions, dictating that moving furniture that doesn't belong to you is an act of treason against the state, needs to change immediately. If I can't enjoy a cup of wine, slide a tavern chair in front of a fireplace, and then enjoy a good chat with a friend without a disgruntled (charming apparently) cat pawing the back of my neck off, then I guess this must be a world with crime ridden cats flying off every rooftop haha.

Votes to change this feature for better roleplaying enjoyments?

Bring in your own chair! A lot of restaurants will ask you not to move their furniture around. Anything that makes your cursor red belongs to someone else and will get you in trouble!

The two workarounds are -

Bring in a legitimate chair from somewhere else
Sneak quick, then throw it into position.

a more complicated answer would be to go into the editor and place things where you want them.

The best option for you might be to just go into the modding forums and learn how to set furniture as "not owned" (so it doesn't get you in trouble for stealing or moving it), and publish that mod.
