It doesn't matter where you put her. You should have higher perception on one of your characters to detect hidden stuff.

It does matter where you put the high-Perception character but formation matters at least as much as the chain sequence. The high-Perception character does NOT need to be in the lead, but if they're too far behind while moving then they may not spot a trap in time to do any good, so choose a formation that keeps them near the front while moving. Getting them something that will increase their sight radius will also help.

Another perception question: I know the light stepping bonus doesn't count towards starting AP but does it count for items (like rubies) in addition to traps and switches?

You should give perception to a character that can actually benefit from it, like a rogue or archer type of character, sadly perception is rather useless for all caster and melee classes. The character with perception will spot the trap/object if he or she comes withing a certain radius of it, so if he or she is last in the marching order it might be to late to spot it.

With regards to Fragonard's question:

there are gears give perception bonus, and a talent helping trap and hidden treasure detecting.
in my experience, 12 would be enough for most part of the game.

however, I don't think it's a waste attributes though, perception will increase critical chance. personally when gears get me high enough strength and dex, I like my melee and range characters to have high perception.

also, it contributes to starting AP. as non glass cannon player, it matters somewhat~

I had a very difficut time in the central room at at Source Temple. Simply because the games doesn't give any hints or help at all that you'll need a rather high perception. I had to go to the Dark Room in my homestead and I had to redistribute all of my talents, abilites etc. to get a high percpetion of 14 or 15. And then I could go on. For some quests, like the Maradino quest, perception really is the key to finding the entrance to the Maradino's cave.

Little did I know that having my two main characters redistribute their talents, abilities and primary stats would also mean that the spells etc. they have learned during the game. I had to go to the elemental halls in the Homestead to get some of the spells back. I even find to Cyseal to get some other spells etc. Luckily I had some equipment, I could use in bartering. I didn't notice Molok saying anything about that the characters would loose all the memory of the spells they have learned
during the game.
