thanks raze. i think that if i try to go into the files or mess around very much i'm going to get into trouble and lose the whold game. i would hate to tell my wife that she will have to wait a long time to ring the gong. maybe the dragon armor pieces will be ok.anyhow thanks again for your help, i wish i knew how to use it in this case but will muddle through.

Talking to the dwarven king / smith and Sir Patrick a few times didn't trigger the speech option about the breastplate? Oh, well; the dragon breastplate and helm are not that great that you won't be able to find something comparable.
