I'm trying to make a merchant NPC with a custom inventory, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get them to stock anything beyond what the character template came with. I've tried editing both the "Equipment" and "Treasure" categories in the SideBar, but that doesn't fix it even when I copy those values from existing traders rather than trying to use the custom list I added to TreasureTable.txt.

I used the Story Editor to add the NPC to the list of traders in the Homestead region, although I had to make a copy of it first in order to edit the Trade section. After that, I finished making the NPC's dialogue and then generated definitions and built the story. I only built the story once, so maybe that's it?

Can anyone give me an idea of how you make a custom NPC merchant? I've searched all over, watched every Larian tutorial vid, and I still can't figure out how to manage this basic task. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This question was answered previously on this forum.

Just in the level story script under init put ItemTemplateAddToCharacter(GUID, Trader name, Number to give)

Then it will give the item to the trader.

Would be nice if the script could be modified to "forget" about items, sold by player - they keep stocking up and cluttering the traders' inventories...
Also would be fantastic if regeneration could be made for chests...

Abusing this mod leads to almost certain CTD, also multiplying gold and potions. The better way is to change treasure tables for "common junk" and merchants so that they'll have much more items.
