Hi, i just bought Divine Divinity today (yea kinda late hehe). i've been looking true all the info i can find and the different paths i can take, but i simply can't decide

in all the RPG games i played, i always made an archer (ranger) but i don't know if they are fun here and if they are worth making

so if anyone could help me out i can start playing

Hello Alyssa, and welcome to the forum.

Some helpful links:

Click here for Raze's Early Starting tips, with no spoilers.

Click here for a link detailing the actual differences between classes. As you may or may not know, any class can pick any skill from the other classes' skill trees.

My personal favorite class is a summoner mage, but if you do decide the follow the path of the ranger, you should know that the skill "True Shot" is broken and will not work, so don't spend your skill points in it. Using a bow is viable and fun in Divinity, so I say build an archer if you want to.

There's a wealth of information here at the forum, so if you've got any specific questions, feel free to ask.

I didn't like the bow i had...it's recouperation time was too slow!

I loved my mage.

@Carrie: you know that the "reload time" of your bow gets shorter when spending skill points on bow expertise, don´t you?

According to Lego archery is good. This gamer went for bow expertise and splitting arrows until the Wastelands. His thoughts upon finishing the game will follow as link:

His quote:
...the truth is however, that i seldom use(d) my sword. my weapon of choice was my 'machine gun' bow. http://www.speakeasy.org/~legolas357/bow.jpg
with this, i could have a lot of fun breaking bad guys, but also had to be aware of MY hit points and mana.
bow doing A LOT of damage - http://www.speakeasy.org/~legolas357/machinegunlies.jpg
here you can see, what(?) 30 overlords?

here using the 'divine' lightning -

and of course, the sword (please note, this is WITHOUT having to take any potions...not too fair. truly, i can't be hurt) - http://www.speakeasy.org/~legolas357/swordlies.jpg

[color:"yellow"]Lego's archer warrior skills, click here

[color:"yellow"] His mage skills, click here

He described his char tactic in the "finished" article. I found this minimalistic concentrated approach to the game very impressive.

@Lego: Would have preferred you posting this yourself

Mages are cool indeed but they are pretty fragile in the begining of

Perhaps the best char. to start the first time is a warior. It makes it easyer for starters. But then again it is your decision.

Welcome

well, his(legolas) stats actually .....suck I don't want to seem rude(cause I am not, hehe) but not using the bonus on any of the paths is a HUGE drawback: and why only two skills for Elemental Strike??? I just thought I'll comment on this one...

You will have a gun on you; but are not to use it under any circumstances- it's only to strengthen your authority. (EH)

Propheet, he solved the game with his minimalistic style - I think this is impressive. He didn't seem to need it <shrugs>
I thought I'd comment on this one.

[color:"blue"]Hey there Alyssa..
Just wanted to give you a "heya!" and well I don't normally play an Archer but my Warrior/Sorcerer found some pretty nice ranged weapons. I'm not familiar with the skill tree but I did see some nice bows and crossbows.

Happy hunting
