Unknown: For the survivor, I found the following skills to be really useful:
Lockpick to fifth level (of course)
Charms (as in charming weapons and armour)to the highest level
Deadly Traps (those scorpions rock! get to the highest level)
One or two high level offensive spells
Restoration spell at high level
Hagatha: Summon skeletons at high level (they will act as a diversion so you can separate your enemies)
Forget daggers. When you find the Singing Sword and charm it, it will serve you the best. It beats anything else you will find depending on how you charm it.
There is a thief hunting bow somewhere that does 167 (?) damage. Use it until you get the elven gift bow.
The survivor skill that lets you avoid traps
High level alchemy
Really, I'm playing a fighter/magician/survivor combo with high levels of intelligence, strength (less so) and dexterity. She is pretty handy at all skills.
Judee: Ah, how to play it. That is the question.
The thing about this game is there is so much choice. Of course, it depends on how pure you want to play with the survivor skills.
I would recomment getting lockpick up to five for any player - but don't rush it, as there may be ways to earn a point or two without using a skill point. Pickpocket will need to be to level 2 for story reasons, if you want to handle a certain cituation (no spoiling here, just hints) otherwise level 1 is sufficient. But if you plan on stealing a lot, well, definitely put more points in it. Also things like Hide in Shadows.
Assassins Kiss is the backstab - you can get it up to level 5, 50% backstab. Backstab does double damage, but you can add other damage to your daggers with augment damage, lightning damage, etc. Poison weapon. And then there is Deadly Gift. And find traps. The list could go on and on.
A note on Assassin's Kiss. It only works with short bladed weapons like knives, dirks, daggers, etc. Most of these are quite a bit less powerful that some of the better swords and even other weapons. But there is at least one you can get later in the game that is supposed to be better than what you can usually find or buy, but I can't say how much cause I haven't gotten there yet. But the advantage daggers have is that they are fast. Much faster than any other weapon - at least in the beginning. The others can catch up with putting points in the skills.
Of course, I also suggest you have a good shield, and maybe at least one form of ranged weapon, ewither bow, crossbow, or a magic like meteorstrike. You have to get really up close with a dagger, and there are a few baddies that just love having you up close!
Hope this helps a tad. I've got an early survivor, (among others, I'm running several parallel games) but haven't taken that far yet, he's only level 15. So I can't help you with suggestions for later in the game, maybe someone else will jump in
Ariana: At the risk of making the game too easy, the deadly gift skill makes a survivor VERY powerful. Even at level 1 scorpion traps can enable you to defeat boss enemies very late in the game (I got a level 12 survivor to near the end just to see if it could be done - and it could be). At higher levels it is much more powerful.
Unless you focus on melee combat (in which case you might as well be playing a warrior) bows are extremely handy - you can defeat almost anything with a good bow, room to manuever and some patience. A few points in elven sight and bow are very worthwhile. Ditto one point in repair.
Deleted the last post, was not good as a starting advice
