After reading about the game (looking for something new after 2 years of D2) I decided to buy it, but couldn't find it in 4 different stores in Austin. I don't want to buy it online unless I'm really really sure I want it. Criticisms I've read of the game are that it is buggy. Opinions please.

good evening cleglaw. i can only speak of the game with the latest patch (1.0034A), as this is how i played it. i had minimal, if any, problems. there are a couple of non-functioning skills, including true shot for bow, but only a couple and those are quite a minor issue. i believe most of what you've read (and were speaking of) was in regards to the original release (pre-patching). as far as the game is concerned, i will tell you you're in for a treat. you'll hear this from more than just myself - divine divinity is everything diablo II wishes it had been. this comes with one small caveat. since you state you've played diablo II for 2 years now, i assume you've been playing it multi-player. please understand, divine divinity is a single-player only game. if you're after one of the sweetest single-player gaming experiences you can find, do yourself the favor of purchasing it. then head over to the help/tips/tricks section of this forum and read about starting a character. there is a TON of great information there without being forced to read spoilers. additionally, there are people here (the forum) who are quite knowledgable regarding the game, and are more than willing to be of assistance should you need any. hope this helps.

How goes it, I am new to the game myself and I am not worried about a thing.
I'm using the latest patch and I am just going to ride the game out. It's fantastic so far and I really like the freedom. I find myself saving alot and that puts my mind at ease. In the beginning I was kinda concerned about breaking quests or doing the wrong thing but I have become relaxed. I am at the point of totally enjoying the game and not worried about any mistakes.
It's hard to explain but you will know when you belong somewhere and when you don't. It's more than seeing yourself taking alot of damage appose to feeling out of place. But that's what adventuring is all about and sometimes you will still push forward. So go ahead and take the chance, what do you really have to lose besides using a previous save.
This game is fun, so I am taking the chance with bugs or no bugs. So far there are no problems.

Hi Cleglaw, welcome to the forums. Frankly, I wish I'd picked up Divine Divinity LONG before I did. It's a great game that manages to blend a lot of RPGs we know and love, take the good parts, dump the rest, and make a wonderful mixture that just feels RIGHT. The most often quoted analogy is usually along the lines of, "The simplicity of Diablo's interface and combat, with the depth of Baldur's Gate roleplaying." For the most part I really, really have to agree, I can't recommend this game enough. I'm a pretty serious RPG junkie, and this was WITHOUT QUESTION worth my money. 100-200 gameplay hours for bargain bin prices is some serious friggin' bang for my buck. Now, the bugs; one of the benefits of picking this game up now when you are (besides the reduced price) is that you'll be able to take advantage of all the patches and bug fixes that came out. Sadly the RPG genre tends to be a very BUGGY genre, simply because of all the variables involved. DD is no exception, and all the reviews were correct to slam it for the number of bugs it had. That is, they were right at the time. Now the game is frankly about as bug-free as a computer RPG game really gets. Put another way, I have absolutely no complaints about the stability of the game or its behavior, and thus I recommend it without reservation. I was probably correct to wait to get the game, but now is the perfect time to grab it. Now, as for buying the game, your best bet is to basically hunt for any stores that maintain large bargain bins. Places like Electronic Boutique SOMETIMES have it, but they always try to stock the newest games first and foremost. You'll probably want to find "second-tier" stores, the guys less bound to only the newest games, regardless of quality. If that gets boring, I have at least one link now that I give you to get the game: http://www.chipsbits.com - I've used them many times for my games, and I stand by their reliability. I'll try to find more links later, as their price seems relatively high. (still worth it) Another option, although tedious, is Ebay. I found at least a dozen entries for the game, most from reputable sellers. Your call; I buy almost all my games online (have done so for almost a decade) and have never been burned. Even when I get desperate enough to buy off of Ebay, and that's saying something.

![[Linked Image]](http://www.divinedivinity.net/smilies/welcome.gif) to both of you Cleglaw and Staples! is a really great game. Many people say that it is the ultimate mixture between Baldurs gate and Diablo2. I personally like way better than Diablo2 and I never played Baldurs Gate. The latest patch takes care of almost all bugs, so if you decide to buy the gane you won´t run into many problems. Another good point is the price. As the game isn´t new any more it is quite cheap. Yesterday I saw it for 10 Euro which is 11 USdollar. I don´t know wether it is much more expensive when purchased online, but is a must buy in my opinion.

Hello, everyone.
Yes, I agree it might be difficult to get nowwadays. And I agree, too, that the best way to find it might me "diving into the bargain bins" , so to say.

Thanks for the welcome.
I'm only level 15 and still learning the game. Guess I won't have much advice for people other than opinions at this point.
I still say the game is great!

I found the game finally and unexpectedly in Best Buy! It is fun and seems to be addictive. I'm in the catacombs now. Thanks again for your responses to my post.

The catacombs were hard at 1 point, but only because I didn't have a proper understanding of some basic game tactics--TP stone to bed for healing. The tough fight at the end is actually pretty enjoyable. I'm playing an archer-- a Bowazon in D2 terminology, using wisdom as my only nonwarrior skill.
A couple of questions: 1. I am unable to pick up any herbs or mushrooms no matter how hard I try. Am I missing something?
2. Experimenting with the game in a previous character I found that I received zero experience for any kills made by my summoned skeleton. You also get no exp for kills made by Brock. Does this mean a summoner mage is not a viable character type in this game?
3. There are so many items of so many types you come across. Without consulting a spoiler list how do you know what to pick up and tote along. I tried to store some weapons in a barrel and a chest but they wouldn't go in. Just drop them on the floor next to your bed in Aleroth and they will still be and readily accesible there even after you leave town?
Thanks.

hello cleglaw,
A couple of questions: 1. I am unable to pick up any herbs or mushrooms no matter how hard I try. Am I missing something? --> u can never pick any of those up because u're not supposed to. my guess is that u're trying to use your alchemy skill to make potions. what u do is that u drag an empty potion bottle on top of any mushroom or herb to make corresponding potion. red mushroom will yield health potions, blue mushroom for mana, etc.
2. Experimenting with the game in a previous character I found that I received zero experience for any kills made by my summoned skeleton. You also get no exp for kills made by Brock. Does this mean a summoner mage is not a viable character type in this game? --> it is viable, just that XP earned from kills made by summoned creatures are a fraction of the full XP that u cn get if u make the kill yourself. will have to find a guide on summoner for u.
--> yes, there will always be there even if u drop them on a farmer's field. once generated, items will stay in the game.

Yes I found it in Best Buy for $20. They did not have it in 2 different Electronics Boutique stores. They did not have it in 2 different Game Zone stores, though they did have it listed in the computer system of one of the stores. I also could not find it in CompUSA or in Half Price Books.
