As we all know, planescape torment was one of the best rpg's ever made. However it never got the attention it deserved and thus it didn't sell as well as for example Baldurs gate 2. The reason why is because of the setting; a dark and twisted world in some kind of parallel universe.
Most gamers were used to be in some kind of fantasy land with Elfs, Dwarves , orcs etc... so this was quite a big change for the average rpg player, so they usualy didn't want to play it right away (maybe after hearing some really good comments from people who have).

Divinity had the usual Fantasy setting but RR has the Planescape one (barren wastelands and no pretty grassy fields (which is too bad because I loved the Divinity nature atmosphere)).

I know RR will be a great game just like Divinity and I will get it as soon as I can (just like with DD ) but i'm afraid that people who haven't played DD won't be too attracted to this title.

The pics from the imp village were green? And the spooky forest with coloured fog and crystals looks enhancing IMO. I don't believe, RR will have the sinister atmosphere of PST.

As for downfall -> I don't think gamers will know this in advance (same goes for devs). Correct me if I'm wrong, but how much of the Diablo world was green and pretty?

The only thing will suffer tremendous in the eyes of the all the hightechhorny press is the outdated isometric graphic syndrome i fear.

It is the opinion of the press, not that of the thousands of fans and in fact it is the thousands of fans who buy the game, not the press.

I dont necessarily mean "green", I mean more realistisc nature. If it's the green fields from Act 1, Sandy desert from 2 or the snowy landscape of 3, it's still appealing.

As for the Engine, the press probably won't like it, but most "real" rpg'ers still prefer the 2d engine (I'm one of them ).

Also, no I haven't seen any screenshots from the imp village with grass or anything

I had been a critique of the rather dark graphics in , especially in the dungeons, which were partly illuminated by glowing "stars".

However , I'd liked to see some colourful things, like flowers, for example, something "catching the eye".

doesn't this look like in a fairy story? I liked the cobweb parts in the imp pics - and eye catchers will be the crystals... What about the fog in that Forest pic, Lynn showed? Doesn't this look like in fairy story, too?

And I agree totally about the 2D part, Yannos

well CRPG stared out in 2D graphics so many hardcore RPG gamers may prefer the old dimension to 3D. still, as larian has decided on 3D for DD2, i hope its implementation is more than just eye candy & technical reasons(saving space & better real-time effects implementation). 3D has to add to strategy & depth of gaming as well. if not, then 3D isn't that all groundbreaking other than in graphics point of view.

yes, i prefer future larian games to be like DD, a beautiful mix of 2D & 3D.

I totally agree that Riftrunner is being made for the fans.

I purchased Divinity at full price before there were any patches. Even though I am starting the game late because of personal reasons, I have been lurking in the forums for a while now.

This is a short amount of time to be releasing another full game and I appreciate that. I think it's great that they are taking advantage of the Divinity engine using enhancements. It's the only reason we are getting this game so soon.

Personally I don't expect this game to be more than Divinity other than trying new things along with the feedback from fans. So now we are going to have a party member which I could care less for, but since you are forged together because of the new story line it does make things interesting. Along with character creation and the skill system being improved, I'm guessing this is the feedback that they've got back from fans.

Improving anything in an already great game is fine by me and I see what they are trying to do. But fans should be careful what they wish for because I am not looking for another Diablo game. I doubt Divinity would ever go that path because it's creativity is much more than that.

I like the adventuring side of Divinity and the world that they created with such freedom. I could care less if I had to fight through the whole game with a stick but don't tell anyone that.

I already know Riftrunner is going to be linear in the beginning focussing more on character creation + skill system and new people learning the game. In this short amount of time I would not expect them to create a world such as Divinity. But since the game is suppose to be filled with plot twists and lots of sub quests I am definitely getting it. If they chose to drop the quest generator I hope this won't have an impact on that.

Riftrunner will be different but if it offers the deep detailed storyline already stated, then I am all for it.

Thanks for the link.

As long as there are alot of quests and the game isn't just focussed on fighting, I'll be content.

I forgot to mention that I didn't post this message just to be negative, only because i'm a wee bit concerned that it won't get the respect it deserves.
But seeing how our good o'll strong community will probably tell people to get this game like the last time ( I'm sure I convinced about 3 people to buy it ).

Yeap that is true. In a greek gothic forum in which I am member, there is a big thread with computer games. I told them about Divinity and they were thrilled. I plan to do the same thing about So I suppose we can inform people of how good the game is and how we enjoyed it.

One thing that makes me happy with is that I will have some company. I am thrilled with the idea that I will be able to comunicate with Deathknight. Good job Larians

I made my above post knowing very little about Riftrunner.

Now that we have more information about it, the game seems alot different in my eyes. I'm happy about the new party member now too and it should add a big twist on the game. Even though it seems that you may be working together to stay alive, you are still trying to break that bond. With the Deathknight being deceiving and evil, it just sounds totally wicked.
