The icon on the desktop (.ICO) could be a 256*256 picture, so that people who have large icons on desktop have a beautiful icon.

But when you see good icons like e.g. firefox, steam, thunderbird which are showing perfect with any CTRL+Wheel mouse on desktop... I suppose the game icon is not too hard to change.
