Ok so im on the find duke's murderer quest i reached the duke's mansion and all and then his servant tells me this quest so it will make dante happy. i thought that i need to do this quest in order to advance in the main quest of duke's murderer. but then i went in dante's room and noticed i can keep the plot going wihout even doing the brooch quest.

so why to do the brooch quest? if i can talk with dante anyway? is the reward good? it seems a long journey to go beyond the dark forest...
and btw if i want to do the brooch quest what is the recommended lvl? im currently a lvl 18 warrior with an ok 2 handed sword, looking desperatly for a good 1 hand sword so i can use with the dragon shield. any suggestions to any thing that i wrote? :X
Thanks in advance!

You have to go to the Dark Forest eventually anyway, but there is no time limit on getting the brooch. IIRC you just get experience as the reward. I cleared most of Rivertown and Verdistis, then entered the castle before going to the Dark Forest, so I think I was in the low or mid thirties for character level.

The easiest at this time is to get Lord Seth's Sword, if you still have some "Heavy Orc's available near Aleroth, lead them towards Lord Seth and they will kill him for you No rep loss, this time I got a sword with stun 2 and froST 2

And no you don't need to do the Broche Quest first.

Just need to follow the Duke's quest
Hint ry the search button

thx for the help guys.
btw that 1 hand sword you mention is any good? what is the sword's dmg??
btw raze you said you cleared most of rivertown and veridstis? so that means you play with a walkthrough by your side? cause wihou one it's impossible to find and do all the quests.
im lvl 18 can't find much quests to do in rivertown for example i can't kill that vampire im supposed to, i can't do the something of orc's supply train cause all those heavy giant orcs smash me badly.
what can i do? :X
so i got no chance to survive the brooch quest at lvl 18?

Seth's sword has random stats, but it can be fairly good for the start of the game. If you completed the escort for the healers quest, though, he will be gone. If not, you can also kill him by indirect means (Poison Cloud cast near, but not directly on him) to avoid a counter attack and loss of reputation.

I did not use a walkthrough, just talked to everyone and explored everywhere I could get methodically. There are non-combat quests in Verdistis you can complete to get more experience, and the north east area of Rivertown is easier than the south east. The undead in the north west (east of the river) are relatively easy to take out with ranged attacks, but tougher melee. If you can find or buy a spider statuette, you can walk freely around orcs and just transform back temporarily to blow up the supply train (and do the second army quest after that). A bow can be helpful fighting tougher creatures, especially combined with a hit and run tactic.

Spell books can be bought. I found Aura of Guarding and Spell Shield quite helpful at lower character levels. The Firewall spell book I found in Mardaneus' house was the only way I could kill the spider at the bottom of the catacombs, and others have also found it great for crowd control.

You can survive the Dark Forest at level 18. Ariana did so before level 12 (when is when she hit the gong to get to the last area of the game). The unavoidable fights required a lot of re-loading at such a low level, however. As long as you have enough restoration potions and enough hit points to avoid one-hit-kills, you can survive anything.
