I've searched and searched for this. Couldn't find anything here or on Google.

How do you create water surfaces like seas and lakes?

Search "SeaPlane" or "RiverPlane" or "Lake" using the template manager with "Cube" symbol checked.

You can also paint a dynamic "battle enabled" water surfaces by using the AI Grid editor.

Thanks! I was actually just coming back here to say I had figured it out. I went into the main game and looked at the properties of their water and figured out it's placed like an item.

By "battle enabled" he's referring to water surfaces which function using the elemental mechanics in the game, as opposed to purely cosmetic water such as rivers and oceans that wouldn't, for example, conduct electricity, create steam clouds, etc. It's how you paint functional poison, puddles, ice, etc.

Down the side of the AI tool there's a drop-down menu. It will default to 'Allow', then you can choose 'block' (both of these simply paint tiles as valid/invalid for walking on), then the drop-down list continues into 'water', 'fire', lava, ice, electrified, whatever. Select surface type and paint on the level as you would any other thing.

Ah, didnt see that option in the Ai grid menus and tools.
Thanks, really useful.

I suppose you cannot paint actual moving rivers or smaller streams with it? Or can you?
Maybe combining these and other water surfaces from Root templates could work...?

- havent been able to dabble with the editor for some time due to work, but any shortstep counts.
