Please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem and the report.zip file generated by the
D:OS support tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information, as well as your saved games. Since the saves are not relevant, you can delete all of them from the zip file.
The problem with the version info not being shown isn't an issue with the executable file itself. If you browse to the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping folder, right click on EoCApp.exe and select Properties, and switch to the Details tab, you can check the number listed for File Version.
There have been several reports of this. One person with the Steam version of the game avoided the problem by using the GOG version (they had both from the kickstarter). Two people with the GOG version fixed the problem by re-installing the game into the Program Files folder (I don't know if Program Files was necessary, or if it was just changing the location that helped).
Another couple people reported this, but have not posted or emailed back about if or how they fixed it.
Try moving (or copying) the 'Divinity - Original Sin' install folder from the '..\SteamApps\common\' folder to another location ('d:\games\' or something), and then try starting the game directly from the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping\EoCApp.exe' program file, by right clicking and running as administrator.
If that doesn't help, try moving it to the Program File folder and try again.
If it does help, you can uninstall the game in Steam, then start the install to a different location, and pause the download when it starts. If you then move the copy of the install folder to that new Steam location and verify local files for the game, that should hopefully avoid having to re-download everything.
I also have Windows on an SSD and games installed to an HHD, which D:OS doesn't have a problem with.
