It's been a while since I got this quest..but I figured I'd ask while I'm thinking about it. There are 4 people that ask you for a cure...but only 3 potions, right?

Three victims and two cures. What is one to do? There are no more cure potions, but you can still give all three of them a cure potion. It's just unfortunate that one of them happens to "misplace" their cure potion.

would this "misplacement" involve pickpocket?

Yes, at level 2. Alternately, you could kill one of the cured people to get a potion back (with no loss of reputation).

hhmmm.... so, have you ever tried casting Poison Cloud near somebody, but not directly on them?

The same thing can be done with other area effect spells that do not need a target, as well as the warrior's spin attack, but I found Poison Cloud to work in more cases. Some NPCs are protected and can not be attacked by some/all methods (or they can be attacked, but not killed), and the patch adds protection for more essential NPCs. I'd be careful about killing friendly NPCs until you are sure you no longer need them

Well, nevermind...I went and pickpocketed one of the people I gave a cure to (no sence in killing an innocent) and tryed to give it to the guy who needed it but he wouldn't take it. I guess I really made him angry when I told him I gave it to someone else. He told me he never wanted to see me again.

The quest was designed so you could only cure two of the three patients in the quarantine area, with the two potions from doctor Elrath's cellar. The pickpocket/kill work arounds were discovered and posted in the German forum first, thus invalidating the moral of the quest, that even a chosen hero could not save everyone.

You can also cheat. You can create one more bottle of the portion and have three and cure them all. I liked that very much. It was the only time I cheated in the game. And this solution made me happy.
