I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find the info anywhere. I am wondering if you can pick talents if you meet the requirements because of a bonus from gear, traits, or a party member with leadership?

I think it works with traits, but none of the other stuff.

Traits are included for sure then?
POSSIBLE SPOILER:
Also, is it true that you can buy books that give you ability points to spend? I have read that in a couple of places, but the info seems uncertain.

When you unlock the 5th room in your homestead you will unlock a npc named the teller of secrets.
She will have 1 book for sale that gives +1 attribute point and 1 book for sale that gives you 3 ability points. These books cost 12,5k gold (before any bartering/attitude stuff applies) and will refresh on each level up of your highest experience character.
With kind regards,
Rashar.

not sure about the discussion of traits and skills?
Talent choices only recognize base stat. your base rank of man-at-arms/expert marksman etc. allows you to choose such and such talents. so the same goes for all the willpower and bodybuilding talents.

So, does that mean if I have Willpower 4 and the 'Independent' trait, I wont be able to take Comeback Kid? That kind of sucks, because I was planning on having Willpower 4, Independent, and another character with 5 leadership, meaning that this character would have an effective 6 Willpower.... But I would have to waste 5 extra ability points to get the talent. I don't see anything anywhere about values above 6, so I am assuming that the cap is 6, right?

trait bonus isn't permanent; obedient could win out independent as game proceeds.
pumping ranks to get talents and then loose them? that's not how the rule works~
as for cap...you mean base ranks? not sure, skills run out of rank bonus at 5, and cannot be enhanced by gears, 5 tops. however, all others, afaik, there seems no cap (or I didn't make it that far to see cap). in my last run, Madora has 6 in Tenebrium and the game indicates there's rank 7; my wayfarer has willpower at 8.

For weapon and defense skills, which just give a flat bonus (like 10% damage per level), you can stack them as high as you want and still get the benefit of it. Many enemies have something ridiculous like 9 or 10 willpower and bodybuilding as early as the Cyseal area. In my last game, one of my characters has 9 Tenebrium (I had 2 pieces of gear with +tenebrium)
