Since this problem is not yet addressed I decided to post a new thread about it. Hopefully the Devs will read it.

Everything was working mostly fine until I decided to test publishing of a Mod on Steam. Next time when I started The Divinity Engine, the Story Editor started to throw the same old "Read Only Error" on my face again when ever I try to modify something. Actually I have never been able to create a script in a story editor because of this error. Instead I have created empty file template manually first, so that I can start editing it in the Story Editor afterwards.

With regards to the first half of your post (and screenshot), that exact thing happened to me when I published for the first time. The problem in my case was having my mod files as expected in C:\blahblah\Data\etc but also now having the mod in .pak form sitting in my \Documents\Larian\Divinity\Mods\ folder. When both are present, I think the Editor defaults to reading from the \Documents\ .pak file, rendering it largely read only in-editor. Try removing the .pak generated from publishing from \Documents\ and see if it helps.

With the above in mind however, you go on to mention that you've never been able to create scripts, which is not something I've faced. That could be related to an issue with modding the main campaign perhaps, if that's what you're doing? Not sure, sorry.

Yes, that was the problem. It seems to be working fine after deleting the files from \Documents\

I'll just have to figure out how to make characters WET in a rain and after that I should be able to release a beta of my mod.

That's done by using an EventTrigger with "RainEventOn" and "RainEventOff".
