Please help me. I’m in the catacombs under Alyroth. I’ve already restored Mardaneus’ sanity (after having resurrected Thelyron). I’ve explored all the dungeons there but I can’t find the axe (Slasher) the orcs are looking for (in fact I’ve found a dozen different axes but none of them is called Slasher).
The only place I can think of should be under a locked tomb that I don’t seem to be able to open. A book in that dungeon says, "opening the four outer tombs will unlock the two central tombs". Every single tomb in that area (and also in areas below etc) is now open but only one of the two central tombs have opened up. The other one remains locked and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been everywhere, pulled every lever, fried every skeleton. Is it a bug or is there a secret tomb somewhere that still needs to be opened?

BTW, those two tombs both lead to the same place. It doesn't matter which you open, the other remains locked.

A wizard is never too deep, kiya. Nor is he too high. He's always on the level he means to.

I took a glance at your map and knew instantly that the Slasher wouldn’t be there. No way. I’ve been there before and the Slasher is not there. I’m not stupid! Ha-ha! Kiya the All-Knowing was wrong! She didn’t know. But I did. I was sure that those orcs were up to something. So I checked my... my... well, my inventory, and bingo, the Slasher was there, hiding beneath a huge pile of axes.
SENILE?! ME?! Say that again and I’m gonna blow you away with a lvl 1 Meteor Strike (actually, it’s level 2 but I want my enemies to underestimate me).
I’m not senile! I didn’t pick up the Slasher without even noticing. Couldn't be. The Orcs put it into my backpack when I wasn’t looking! Bastards. They wanted to fool poor Kiya. Got no respect for women, that orcish scum. But they couldn’t fool me, ha-ha! They didn’t expect that I’d check my inventory sooner or later but I did...

Fine... the next time a gamer misses Slasher, I'll know the answer: PM Dwarf and tell him to hand over his inventory

Have them check their own inventories first, ma'am. Some people are soooo stupid that they don't even know what they keep in their own backpacks. Ridiculous. They shouldn't be allowed to play Divine Divinity. No one should be allowed to install this game without passing Larian's IQ test first.

Aw, come on. Sometimes an inventory is very full - and such a teenyweeny axe can get lost

Yeah but it seems I'm far too keen on the hack n'slash thing and pay less attention to little details... like a four-feet, eight-pound axe
Never mind. I'm going to hack n'slash my way through this game and everything will be all right.
Talking about hacking and slashing monsters... I've found the catacombs too easy - do you think I should set the difficulty from Normal to Hard? Is it possible to do that mid-game, anyway?

I believe you can change the difficulty level mid-game.
What did you think of the spider under one of the four tiles at the bottom of the catacombs?

That Spider under the loose tile is EVIL!!!! I hate spiders with a passion. Took me forever to squash it!!!!

Well, after I knew my tactics I liked the catacombs as a mage (after the 4th game). Though the end fight was always a prob me if I didn't have enough potions. You see, I didn't want to miss one XP pt, kill all before meeting Mardaneus

The spider burned nicely, BTW - I had more probs with the guardians if they came too near. I went into the catacombs after killing zombie Jake 2x, so I was lvl 3(?) when I entered. Putting up the difficulty lvl gave me no considerate bonus - not even nicer goodies.

I'm more the quest type player not the h/s - do as you wish, have fun. That's what a game is for, hm?

Spider? I thought I'd checked all loose tiles down there but I seem to have missed one...
Anyway, I'll check my inventory first. You can never know, there might be a spider head in there.

Kiya, I'm not a hack n'slash type, either. I enjoy those litte stories that unfold (like that of the man who couldn't defend his lady so now he comes back as an undead warrior to defend me).

There are 4 tiles on the bottom level, which lead to 4 small rooms, a strong monster and usually some good loot. There is an amulet in one of the rooms that I used for the rest of the game (though I was tempted to change it a couple times). For all the trouble I had with the spider, it didn't drop anything and there were just a couple gems in the room.

Thanks. I remember killing some tough monsters in the 'loose tile' areas in the deepest catacomb but I can't remember that one.
Now I'm going back to kick spider [nocando].

Inventory check for the spider loot => Amulet of glory? Was the loose NW tile in the end lvl of the catabombs.
Kiya <ducking her head>

Nope, error: I think the NW tile had the Bat of Striking

[color:"yellow"]Last edit:[/color]
NW tile => Skeleton Lord + Bat of Striking (on garbage)
SW tile => Raze's favourite spider + gold, gems, lockpick
SE tile => Guardian and amulet of Glory
NE tile => Conjurer Lord + potions

Bat of Striking. I remember that one.
Today I got work to do but tomorrow I'm going to revisit each area under the tiles.
