In the game I have noticed that armor and weapons may be considered wrecked, worn, new, and well made. Are there any others? What is the worst and best in ascending order? I also noticed that some items' title is displayed in silver. What does this mean? I need as detailed replies as possible. The colour of the name indicates the relative quality, though there is some overlap.
From low to high; white, grey, blue, green, yellow, gold

As for the name prefix, there is also broken, strong (maybe, IIRC).... don't remember any more. I don't think anyone has gone though and compiled a full list.

Can a knife found in Joram's basement be a color other than white, or is there only specific armor and weapons with quality higher than white? In other words, is the quality random on all items?

White are weapons (items) that are not enchanted. These items don´t have random stats. All enchanted weapons (from grey upwards) have random stats.

However it is random what you find in special locations. On the other hand you never find enchanted items in jorams basement.

How about the chest in Joram's house (not in the basement)? I found several different items. Can any item be found there or is there a list that defines what can be found in that (or any) specific chest (or any other container)?

There is no limit of what can be found in crates or chests, but you will find better items if you have a higher level.

However there are a few "special" items that are found on the same place every time.
