Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Big problem in Verdistis. Ouch!

I started my game from scratch a few days ago. With my previous character, I had no problems in Verdistis... now, a bug seems to have creeped up. I can't save in Verdistis, or do anything! I can't even get out of Verdistis by the road, can't pickpocket Sweeney because he DOES NOT have a necklace, Afrasam DOES NOT go into the kitchen and so on and so forth... and at some point, the game just crashes back to my desktop. I installed the patch, it doesn't fix it.

Has anyone encountered that problem? Can somebody tell me what's going on! I'm panicking! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaargh! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hasn't ever happened to me, though Verdistis causes slowdowns. I can't suggest anything but to make a new char. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

have you tried:
backup savegames
deinstall en reinstall <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />
put savegames back
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/question.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/question.gif" alt="" />

This is fixed with Patch 1.32. I had it too then I installed the Path and no more slowdowns

Hi Sharidan,

Did you install the hotfix before you experienced the problem or afterwards?
Installing the hotfix after the bug appears won't solve your problem. It can only prevent to make it happen again...

I fear that your savegame is corrupt, not sure though. Do you have a previous savegame? Try playing with this one, and go back to Verdistis, see if you still have the same problem. First install the hotfix!

If this doesn't help you, I'd suggest you the make a backup from your savegames.
Uninstall the game, re-install the game, apply the hotfix, copy the backupt savegames back into the "RUN/savegames" folder where you have <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> installed. If you didn't start up the game yet, you should create the savegames folder into the run folder yourself.
The following is important as well (from our Technical FAQ ):

4) Problem: I made backups from my savegames and now I can’t load them anymore
When you copy files from a CD to your HDD, the read-only flag is set by Windows, preventing Divine Divinity to open these files for writing. Clear the read-only flag by right clicking on the files, selecting properties, unchecking the read only flag and then clicking on apply.

Also make sure that you do a full install of the game, have the cd in your player while playing (better don't use a no-cd patch), and that your color depth of your desktop is set to 16 bits.

And our apologies for the inconvenience.

I did try a previous saved game after I installed the hotfix. Didn't make any difference. I can only think that maybe my game was corrupt before that but it didn't make any difference in Rivertown. I'll try to de-install and re-install, see how it goes... Hope it works because I really don't fancy starting a third character... That would really p... me off! And the inconvenience is not really anyone's fault Lynn. Computers have a mind of their own and mine doesn't like me!

Now, I can't even load my saved games!!! I de-flagges the read only as said previously. They still won't load!!! When I went back to the savegames folder, they were all flagged again!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAaaargh! Okay, I'll go have a tantrum in private.

I'll go start my third character now... Will I ever finish this game?! I wonder...

Well, I'm already level 10, but it's not fair, I can't seem to find the really cool stuff I had in my last game. Boohoo! Let's just hope the Blade of Chaos is still where it's supposed to be... I've been building up my sword skills!


I have to admit I am moving a lot faster than the first time though... Level 10 in about 2½hours... not too bad!

just wait til you get the dragon armor and sword of the gods(you might have to reload but make sure you get one with frost) you will rule the world...or at least be able to kill anyone...
