Greetings all I am having real trouble getting through the many fights which crop up - I am a level 12 male warrior and as much as I really enjoy the game, I just can't seem to win many fights and make progress! I am not that bad (no really!) but as a mum to a young toddler I can't spend hours on end replaying big fights over and over or using complex tactical battleplans as I don't have the time or brainpower LOL! I have the alchemy skill (and the magical shield which has saved my skin many times) and have been making potions but never have enough (usually health) and I have to keep drinking dwarven ale for magic abilities and stuffing myself with bread and meat! I am just progressing so slowly and it takes me ages to get to the next level and I keep getting to a point where I can't defeat the main baddie eg the vampire, anyone who is or becomes -100 hostile, the lych, the thieves in the house, large spiders, lots of the creatures in the dark woods, any large groups like orcs, especially when they have bigger ones in them etc etc the list is endless ...
Can anyone help me in some way to quickly increase my exp level or stats or whatever to win more fights? I am also permanently low on dosh so I can't go and buy loads of great weapons or armour. My stats are currently 44 strength, low twenties agility and around 20 for the others (as far as I can remember), so I'm pretty puny I guess, but it is taking me an age to increase them!
Thanks all and I hope you will help me out here! Lynda
PS: Where can I get a good pic for my profile here?

I'd suggest going to Verdistis and taking on some non-combat quests for a while. The Dark Forest is a definate no-go zone. Wait until the high 20s. The Cursed Abbey will be difficult as well.
And welcome to the forums!

Welcome, Nerdella! Verdistis does sound like a good choice at the moment, and you might also want to take a look at one of these threads: Early Starting Tips Early Starter Tips (Non-spoiler version) For the fights, remember you can usually run away, take a nap, and go at it again!

You could try running aroung OUTSIDE the cursed abbey. Small groups of corpses will popup (1-4) and they yield 3,000 to 4,000 exp. when you're of a low level. I always do this because they're really slow and easy to pick off. I've gained 2 or 3 levels just in this area!
Oh, and welcome to the forum

You can try using a bow and hit-and-run tactics until you are stronger. I rarely bought equipment, since I usually found better stuff while exploring or dropped by monsters. If you drink a shadow potion and use your spin attack near (but not directly on) a creature, you will hit it without turning visible. I would get your agility up higher (check your chance to hit and be hit in the stats pane, as popup info hovering the cursor over your offense and defense). While in Verdistis, you will get a quest to steal some some lockpicks. If you started the game after installing the 1.34 patch you can return them and then buy them back; if not just keep them. They are unbreakable and give you an agility bonus. ARIC'S WARRIOR GUIDE

For the fights, remember you can usually run away, take a nap, and go at it again! You can also nap mid-combat if there's a bed of sorts handy. Made it much easier to kill the Bandit Leader.

SPOILER..................
I am not sure if this helps but, I found that if you do the quest for healing the two injured guys in the first town, then you get a reward from the lizard guy that helps you heal 40 hit points with using 8 magic.
You have to use the magic mirror and healing gem. Duplicate the gem in the deep puddle and then take the gems to each guy and heal them. After that just talk to the healers(Dwarf and Lizard) and you will be rewarded for your effort.
You most likely already know or have already done this but I thought I should point it out anyway heheh.
Good luck, and btw, any questions you may have these are the right people to ask. They have helped me out considerably. Even if I just read about it they have all the answers.
I believe they enjoy the game as much as I do. Or they are addicted
Anyway, there are some really helpful people here.
Later and have fun,
Pystal

I had actually walked away from the game having had some of the same issues you are having. I threw myself headlong at the Mass Armies of orcs dotting the countryside and was creamed, but....not for long.
I tried using magic to slow down thoses big ugly orcs, the Giant ones, hated em. Some big baddies I had to snarl under my breath and vow revenge later, and go do something else as far a as a quest etc, then come back stonger and smak some manners into the offending baddie. *evil happy grin* ahhhhhhhhhhh.... I liked Meteorstrike and was able to find spell enhancing goodies to boost it, the Ice one(?) level 3 or more is nice, freeze em whack em. and my rabbit up the sleeve, as said up above, hands down best survival technique, RUN. regroup and smite heavily gamegurl

This is kind of cheap, but it will help. Provided you havnt used the wishing well yet. Go to the wishing well, save the game before you talk to the well. Then Talk to the well and get your level up to the next level. SAve that game as a completely diffrent game. Exit the game, go to the save game folder of the first games, COPY the STORY.000, and STORY.001 files into the second save game. and you can talk to the well again and get another level up. And you will still have the previous level up. Do this as often as need be till you can kick butt. I did this trick pluss the inv file to get all three NOBEL items.
Or do the other thing i did, grab a bow, run like hell, and kill as many elite orcs as you can. using the CLT in there direction function. take small steps in there camp so you only lure one at a time, or 2 or three. And runn back into the areas you all ready have cleared. I think i raised almost 10 levels slaughtering the orc camps.
