Obvious spoilers here.

You need to steal Tenebrium from Troll Kings.

The problem with this quest is that getting access to Tenebrium is much easier by other means, since Troll Cave unlocks much later in the game, due to key component for that being in area blocked with 14th lvl spiders.

Usually, getting access to Tenebrium in Mines or Immaculate outpost in much easier and earlier available in the game. When eventually Troll Cave gets unlocked, it's completely optional area with nothing quest worthy to do. If it was available earlier, it would actually be great sneaking section.

It seems like developers completely missed the pacing for this quest.

So anyway, anybody actually finished this quest in intended way?

Yes.

Except I failed the first RPS check and went on to kill all the trolls in there.

And while you are correct that there are alternate ways of completing the quest earlier, Brandon thinks of that one source as being the easiest, so he sends you that way. He doesn't know of what's going on in the mine or on the other side of the forest.

What was your questing path in that game?

I'm just curious how you did manage to first get Tenebrium from Troll Cave, instead some of the other sources.

EDIT:
I will note that Mines path to Tenebrium is sometimes overlooked, since only easy way to get it is to figure out that you can blast northern path which is without Death Knight and has one patch of Tenebrium ore. Many players would just run away from mines after seeing Death Kinghts.

But the other option getting to outpost seems much more inviting, since player would usually choose to do the trials, before facing spiders, and then go to new section of map with the outpost.

I guided myself by level requirements, avoided any tenebrium because I didn't need it, didn't want rot and didn't have a pickaxe with me.

I run a party of 2 mages, by-the-by.
