If I buy the Source Hunter DLC, will I get the DLC items in my current game or do I have to create a new game?

I think they should show up in your current game. I started a new game in the GOG version without the DLC folder in the My Documents D:OS folder (which that version uses to keep track of active DLC), and saved. Loading that save in the Steam version had the DLC items added. I did have the DLC installed for the GOG version, though; I don't know if that does anything other than add the DLC folder.
