Does anyone know why they don't sell game OST cd's in Europe? I know they sell 'em in the States - why would there be more interest for them in the States than here?
That's a thing I *often* wondered myself.
A question to the makers of Icewind Dale for example was answered that they "don't sell the soundtrack in Europe". I still have the e-mail to prove it.
Finally - a few weeks ago I saw a pack consisting of Icewind Dale and both BG parts - it contained the Soundtrack.
I once had the idea or an "opinion article" in mind (I thought I would write it for my small series at RPGDot), which should be named : "How US companies harm US customers". The idea was, that we often see US-based companied preparing for the US first - "first, bigger and better", that's the general rule. Take 2 even managed, for example, to publish Age of Wonders : Shadow Magic in the US first, although the game was developed in het Nederlands, here in Europe.
This behaviour of US-based publishers ("bigger, better, first") leads to some sort of anti-amricanism within Europe : european customers (gamers, that is) tend to feel like being treated as "second class customers" or generally speaking, to be inferior than US citizens.
To repeat : the "geral rule" we here in Europe often see ("bigger, better, first") leads to certain unfriendly feelings towards US customers and US publishers. I have read real complaints and even flame-wars about that.
Obviously, - as I see it (in my opinion) - the customers aren't "guilty" for that; it's thge policy of the great publishers.
What's a riddle to me is, how they still can be so insensitive and not notice the reactions they provoke by such a policy. I'm totally clueless about that.
I'm already sick of that, but I understand people defending themselves, because they have nothing to do with such a policy.
I can only warn you : The more the publishers keep on performing this policy, the more anti-americanism it will produce amongst european gamers. Be careful not to fall prey to this unpleasant thing.
