I want to buy the dvd-rom version of the game. I don't usually play games on my mac, so I had a question about the installation. If I buy the disc do I have to use the disc every time I want to play the game? Or do I just install the game from the disc and then I can play it whenever I want?

You may just want to by the game electronically, people including myself have been having issues with the dlc unlocking on steam with no fix. The retail version gets verified through Steam and that is where the problem lies.

You would not need the disk to play the game. The retail version of the game is Steam, though the client is only required for the initial activation and to download updates; it is not needed to play the game.

Actually, the Source Hunter DLC in the US retail release should activate properly now. A fix for instances where the key was redeemed before about Jan 7th should be available soon.

Buy the game at your own risk. The game has some serious game breaking issues linked with fps drops for many people and the problem hasn't been fixed since its official release. Again some people dont have this issue, so its a 50/50 risk if the game will run well or run like garbage.

Either way i hope it runs well for you with no fps issues because the actual game mechanics and content is great but if like me and many others you have this fps issue, you will eventually stop playing the game out of frustration like so many others.

The overwhelming majority of people have not had that problem. There are engine optimizations being worked on, described in the latest kickstarter update video.
