I tried making a level several times in August-September last year, but for each try came a point where my editor save file was so bugged ridden that I had to start over, and lost many hours of editing.

So I was reduced to just thinking of ideas for my mod and lurking in the forum.
Now I got this feeling, by reading through people's threads, that the editor is in a workable condition, though still with some flaws. So I've decided to give it another try!

Now my questions are as follows:
How can I make multiple save files, so I can have older versions and therefor backtrack?

And more important, what bugs or errors should I look out for and are there any precautions I should take before starting on a new level/mod?

The only error I've ever encountered that I couldn't work around was when I added a second terrain after making hours worth of adjustments to the first terrain. Upon saving and reloading, the first terrain would lose all shape, turning into a flat plane.

Plan ahead, add any terrains you might need before you do *anything*.

Back your mod up after every editing session by just duplicating the following folders:

Divinity: Original Sin/Data/Editor/Modname
Divinity: Original Sin/Data/Public/Modname
Divinity: Original Sin/Data/Mods/Modname

Hey Burgee thanks for your reply, I have some further questions though! hehe

Do you mean painting with a new terrain layer or just adding the terrain to the folder where you choose to paint from?
Because I remember having a bug where you couldn't add new terrain templates to the rooster, leaving you with only those you had added for the first editing session.

The save duplicating thing, leaves you with 3 save locations, you can have skipping between being the oldest, the "middle" and the newest save "file", right?

Kinda following this pattern!

Save locations: A B C A B C A B C
........Sessions: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

What about the wall bug where you can't edits walls you placed in the last session? Is it still around?

When you make a mod, the files for that mod are saved in the three locations Burgee named. You want to save all three of the folders into another folder named with the version (e.g., yourmodV1.01). That way, if something gets screwed up, you can just plop those old folders, or probably just the files that got screwed, into your current version.

I don't remember this one but it hasn't happened to me. Walls can be finicky but they are usually workable.
