Just started playing so apologies for what may be a very noob question. I found a mention on web that said penny bun mushrooms are plentiful just outside city gates. But after finding them initially I am having no luck other than occasional one or two. I need to craft healing potions as I am not flowing with gold, but I am going through my potions hehe

Any suggestions where to find or is there a way to make them respawn ?

Thanks

They don't respawn, but you can also use food to heal. Outside of combat you should use spells to heal, to conserve resources, since the cooldown time isn't much of an issue. Alternately, lying on a bed or sleeping mat will regenerate health, if you are near a place that has either (there are no portable versions).

Make sure your fighter took the heal skill at first level and/or your mage took Minor heal in the Hydrosophist skills or both, Raze is right, I never use healing potions outside combat and only rarely in combat...the advantage on potions is the low AP cost to use in the battle, 3 points, but the healing spells/skills actually heal more and improve as you level up.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I almost lost my complete party twice now, only thing saving last member was the potions, and I am not on hard

I have the skills you mention but I definitely need potions for combat, at least till I figure out how to fight better.

Game is great, don't get me wrong. Me, not so good hehe

Thanks

Utopiarocker it is hard at first, I played on easy, I knew it was going to be kinda hard. I looked at my first playthrough as training and used it as a learning experience. I died ...a lot. At first.

Everyone develops their own style, but a little advice and help can be very instrumental in making it more enjoyable and less laborious, dont think of it as working on your game think of it as trying to enjoy the hobby. Dont be afraid to consult the walkthrough guide, if your dying you might be trying somethin too difficult for your characters at this point, that is really common I guess.

Potions are useful for sure. Scrolls can be a world of help.
A few more sessions and you will get more experience and learn better what works best.

Remeber basic tactics, fire and manuver, protect the mage, buff the fighter, concentration of all available firepower on one target at a time. Watch the environment and use it to your best advantage. Attack the enemies with the highest initiative order first, better to kill one enemy than wound a few, Specialization is the key to character success, characters trying to be able to do everything, end up being good at nothing.

Anything in particular really kicking your butt? Lots of good and nice people on here will help so dont hesitate, and you are soon gonna know and face everything in the game it is not insurmountable, nor is it a cheap shallow rip-off lousy game. Do everything in Cyseal before leaving the town, get Wolgraff and Bairdotr or Jahan or Madora or if you lone-wolfed ( I did but just my fighter, my mage doesnt really need it) just get the NPC that you dont have a character covering that class.

PM me if I can help, I am not so much more experienced in this game but I have beat it 3 times and I am super over-experienced when it comes to wargames and RPG's in general.

Yes hahaha ! laugh
I started already 4 or 5 times again to LEARN via experiences, via learn & error ! :hihi:

I love the beginning of D:OS like I love (still do !) the beginning of Divine Divnity, but now my love for D:OS has going over DD because of a few things DD not have, especially the Turn Based Combat !!

Yesterday I tried again DD and to be honest : real combat is so many times a "mouse click mania" pfff ...
But really ( eek ... I can't believe almost myself!), I wish to play one more time DD till the end to try a hero that is a real summoner to help him in all battles so I can sit down and relax more while (and "click" less!) my summons do the dirthy work for me laugh !

Btw, I play D:OS on easy . Next play I wish to rise up the difficulty to normal, the next time to hard, then to ... horror :hihi: !

Joram: that's really strange, for some reason the start of D:OS reminded me on Divine Divinity as well... smile Might be the great music though. They definitely reused some themes from the earlier games.

Yeah I think I am gonna revist Divine Divinity, in couple of months after D:OS is passe and I feel the same about Pillars of Eternity which drops end of next month, the Anthology is available on Amazon for $150.

Joram I also am working up the difficulty ladder, I started on easy and will progress up as well.

Sleepybadger yes the music, it is very good for game music. The Imp song ( thats what I call it dum-de-dudda-dum-weeee! ) kind of makes me a bit ill, but it is also kind of funny.

as for Utopiarocker we havent had a post from him so he is probably knee deep in diced beast (Yeah buddy), happily gaming away in D:OS, at least I hope he made it over the hump, really we should help these noobie's out when they ask, I'd feel bad if people didnt especially since they WANT to enjoy and immerse in this game too and more popularity means more sales, more sales means more likelihood of future D:OS products for us to enjoy. Also for every 10 FPS-retards out there that button mash their way through games and probably life , there is gonna be one gamer who is worth pointing in the right direction and encouraging to be a deeper smarter better gamer and a more enlightened person.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestion..

I am playing normal. Didn't reply sooner because with work,et al, I get typically 2-2.5(max) hours play time on a weekday.

Felixg91 , a very kind offer but honestly I am not at the point where I can formulate succinct questions. it is still very random to me, I don't see the patterns, the big picture.

I started out with basic party (ranger/wizard/mage/fighter) and now am trying a party without a tank. My two characters are a ranger and a wizard - pyro and geo, I kept johan and hired another magic character. I didn't think the tank was contributing as much as the others, my feeling is that my two casters throwing up spiders is providing more tanking than I was getting before. Then again, probably not using Madora correctly

Thanks again

Good.

Yeah the spider though loathsome looking, is a pretty good member of the team, I came to realize that pretty quickly- also who gives a damn if it dies? Always my first geo spell. Certain skills and spells are essential to start with depending on class/build. For any fighter I recomend to be sure you get Battering Ram, Dust Devil and Cure wounds at first level.

I like my tank! LOL My favorite. But a Stealth Archer ( also sounds from some of what other posters are saying ) could be just as lethal in different ways.

More than one way to do it, I am sure you will figure methods out and succeed. Dont be afraid to start over if your not liking the party, and be careful of respec with Moloch the Demon in Homestead, you have to re-learn all the skills which you lose and some skillbooks are only avilable once and they are some of the best skills. It is not a game breaker but can cause some frustration and regret.

I havent used Madora so no idea what she is like. I hated Jahan as soon as I met him so I never recruit him, at least not yet. Wolgraff is my fave. Bairdotr seems weak, but maybe she is better than I am giving her credit for.

Dont waste time talking to us, go play buddy! I would be playing too, if I wasnt marooned (for what seems like an eternity) at work.

Have fun Storming the castle!

Maybe it's a consolation wink :
I can play mostly only in the weekends for 2 or 3 hours, sometimes a short moment in a weekday (1/2 hour).
The profit : I'll have a loooooooooooooong time playing D:OS,
for several yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaarsssssss ! :hihi:

Btw, in my current playround only 1 of my Sourse Hunters use now and then a melee weapon in case of ... I wish to try to use more magic spell, love them !! And I've Wolgraff and Bairdotr. A ranger is handy and great ! But I love making all kind of special arrows for Bairdotr laugh ! And I like the Pet Pal speaking with animals and Wolgraff has something to do with animals (quest related with him) !

Petpal is a must, Animals give quests and therefore experience and loot will follow.

I give up sleep to play, and I play as often as I can, a day without combat is like a day without sunshine! ( or coffee).
